AIBU to choose for 4 year old ds?

Decorating 4 year old ds room soon. So painting & replacing duvet cover, rug, curtains etc.

He obviously wants character bedding & curtains & even a suggestion of bright coloured walls. I'd prefer things that will last a bit longer, saw some lovely lego bedding in Next. But feel a bit mean as when we've been looking together he just wanted all his favourite characters.

I think the lego bedding is great, but I also think you should let him choose his own.
When we did DS's room when he was 5, I choose plain carpets and curtains, and toned down his choice of wall colour from bright green to something more like mint, but let him choose the bedding and lightshades. Having a big pinboard or frames for artwork or posters they can change is a good idea. We have an area of magnetic blackboard paint for drawing on or attaching pictures to.

The expensive or disruptive (paint) items can stay for years, the rest can be updated as his taste changes.

Oh and if anyone can recommend a good bookcase that would go with anything as not changing his furniture and can't get the same colour as Ikea don't do it anymore.
