Then words like Wanker, Bastard, Twat and Tosser are off limits too? The blatant double standard is very irritating.

Am I the only one who thinks like this??

We have a French friend called Fanny so always used the word cunt instead (usually if vaginas come into conversation somehow). Less so now with the children about.

I only learnt that twat wasn't a derivation of twit late into my 20s. Goodness knows what people though as I used it all the time.

Interesting.
I think slut, whore are def misogynistic as they refer to women's 'promiscuity' and the fact that there is no male equivalent is evidence of patriarchy.
'bitch' - probably misogynistic as it refers I think to a type of behaviour deemed typically female - and not applied to men
'cunt' defnitely misogynistic and I hate it above all else (when used as a swear word) - but 'knobhead' or 'prick' are also offensive and I avoid them because no one deserves their genitals to be used as a term of abuse
wanker/bastard- inoffensive and not gender specific though I find both of them more likely to be applied to men than women just because....well, there are more male wankers than female ones Grin
twat=cunt as far as I am concerned, not sure how it has become less offensive.

chocoluvva · 29/01/2013 14:57

"bitch is like cow to me"

They're both FEMALE animals :(

AmberSocks · 29/01/2013 15:00

i have used all,and am not offended by any of them.people in general seem to just like to object to things.

I think calling a woman a slut or a whore is very different to call a man a wanker or tosser. Even though wanker and tosser make reference to masturbation, very rarely are they actually used in that way. Whereas slut and whore are used almost exclusively to talk about a woman's sexual behaviour, or your understanding of it. Bitch, in reference to spiteful or catty behaviour or a person who engages in it, isn't that offensive imo, and same for using bastard to describe a particularly awful man (or woman, if you like).

catladycourtney1 · 29/01/2013 15:07

Also, I think twat and cunt are unisex, but cunt somehow seems worse when used to or about a woman. I don't see why though, it's only like calling a man a dick or a knob.
