To wonder if this could be classed as leaving the scene of an accident?

Yesterday DH was on the motorway when some serious hail came down. Luckily only doing 30/40 as visibility was shocking. His stupid bloody car suddenly slipped and spun 360 but he controlled it somehow and hit nothing.

3 cars further back hit the same patch. 2 went into the barriers.

He pulled to the hard shoulder and checked on everyone, all were fine and all cars were battered but driveable and the drivers said they were just going to set off again.

Trouble is when we (he was picking me up) went past the other way 30m later 2 cars were still there as were the police.

I said DH should call 101 to log him being there. He says as everyone was fine What's the point?

So aibu to worry he could get done for leaving the scene even if other drivers said they were going to?

As far as I'm aware, he can only get done for leaving the scene of an accident if he caused the accident... which he didn't.

Unless the police are looking for witness, which I very much doubt, prob no need to get in touch. Unless you/he really wants to.

I thought you only had to report an accident if there had been an injury, as he didn't hit anything and didn't injure anyone there would have been no requirement to report it. He could have reported that there was ice/oil/unknown substance? on the road that was creating a dangerous hazard but I'm not sure that there was a requirement for him to do that.

He skidded. He didn't have an accident.

Oh good I was obviously being a bit over paranoid. Not so good DH will be all smug though Hmm.

No need to report the hazard it was literally a sheet of Hailstones coating the road in seconds. We are in s Wales and the weather has been epic.

fizzybeerandsausages Only if you exchanged details with anyone else who had reason to need them, if you failed to exchange details with them, then you have to report (so they can get them from the police)

There is a very small chance that one of the other drivers could claim that he caused the accident they had and that they required his details. However it's an even smaller chance that the police would consider it leaving the scene of the accident in the case that he didn't.

He has nothing to worry about.

He didn't have an accident - no damage to anyone else's [person or property to report.
