To tell my flatmate that if she has a bath AND shower on the same day she can pay more of the water bill?

she is starting to do this quite regularly....
I have a bath in the evening - something I started doing because there isnt enough hot water for us both to have a shower in the morning - but now sometimes I go for a bath at night and there isn't enough hot water because she has had one in addition to her morning shower.....

surely there must be a water problem? otherwise a family of say four wouldnt even be able to all have a shower once a day?

Grow up and talk to her fgs - then get your ridiculous hot water system sorted out.

Pandemoniaa · 28/01/2013 22:41

Just talk to her and work out a sensible system so that you both get hot baths and showers when you want them. If you've got a problem it won't be solved by passive aggressive games.

It is alright saying just sort out the hot water problem but if you have a tank then it will only contain so much water and if one person uses it all having a nice long hot shower then there is nothing you can do but wait for tank to refil and heat up again. if you both need to leave for work about the same time then you dont have a spare 30 minutes to wait around to be able to get a shower.

Shower are not all the same, nor are the size of peoples hot water tanks or the methods they use to heat water. And if you are in a rented property you cant just go ripping out the old and putting something else in its place.

She needs telling to be more considerate and not to use all the hot water.

You could say "When's the best time for me to have a bath so the water has heated up again after you have yours?" If she says a late time just say "Oh might be best for me to have mine before you then. If I run it at x o clock it should have heated up again by (her time.)"

Could you not have a power shower fitted as then you'd not run out of hot water?

YANBU

There should be enough hot water for 2x5 minute showers.

It's the electricity not the water that costs.

BoneyBackJefferson · 29/01/2013 06:46

just talk to her.

diddl · 29/01/2013 08:25

I agree you should talk to her.

You should both be able to shower in the morning, so maybe she uses too much water then?

If so-can you shower first, but without using all the hot water?

Has she started to have a bath because you do & she doesn´t want to be "subsidising" that??
