To ask that letting agent come to viewings

We are leaving our rented property in two months. The letting agent is arranging viewings, that I am happy to accommodate. However today she said no one from the agency will come with the viewer.

Wibu to ask that someone from the agency accompanies viewers? For one, I don't see why I should do their job for them and secondly, I'm on my own in the day with DD and feel a bit uncomfortable with strangers coming in.

As a side note, they are a crap agency and we had to beg for repairs so I'm not inclined to go out of my way for them anyway.

I think you can insist that either they or the owner is present UANBU

Arthurfowlersallotment · 28/01/2013 17:00

Thank you. I will. I wasn't sure but I thought it was standard to have an agent present.

Thank you for this thread! I never would have thought of making sure someone else was present so I'm glad I read this!

SneakyNuts · 28/01/2013 18:50

YANBU- when we were looking at properties, the current tenants always had to show us round. We always felt really bad disrupting them in that way.

You should do what Joannezipan suggested. If they say no, say you wont be at the property so a keyholder will have to be there anyway.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 28/01/2013 18:53

You don't want randoms quietly cutting another key or helping themselves to your stuff so yes to accompanied viewings whether or not you had DD.

nocake · 28/01/2013 19:26

This is the sort of thing we pay our agent for. TBH we would rather have them showing someone round and "selling" the property rather than the current temants who could say all sorts of things about the property to the people viewing.

CuriosityKilledTheCrap · 28/01/2013 19:48

This is happening to me at the moment. It pisses me right off. It's for sale and rent... Imagine how many viewings in getting asked for! Shock. It's so inconvenient but I have a dog so they can't let themselves in. Bastards.

Arthurfowlersallotment · 28/01/2013 20:05

Thank you for all the good advice here.

Well I am on mat leave so I can be more flexible than most, but it just really annoyed me that they're so fucking lazy they can't be arsed to do a basic requirement of their job. The owner is paying them for a service and they aren't earning their money. Not to mention the £200 a year 'admin' fees they charge to renew a contract. Instead they expect me to answer questions about the property and take time out to show a stranger around.

I used to enjoy doing viewings for lettings....

'And this is the vent that doesn't work properly so just makes the house freezing in winter, this is the broken hob that they said they'd fix when we moved in but haven't yet...."

If you are concerned just say "I'm not sure if I'm in then - depends on dd's nap schedule - you are welcome to show round then if you want though" a few times.

ScariestFairyByFar · 28/01/2013 20:40

Yanbu in fact your being good to let them do viewings while your still living there so least they can do is accompany them. If not say no viewings while your still there.

Arthurfowlersallotment · 28/01/2013 21:20

The owners are a really lovely couple so I do want them to have new tenants. I'm happy for viewings while we are still here. I just don't want to do the agency's job for them- especially when they have been so difficult to deal with during our tenancy.

contact your landlord and tell them - perfectly reasonable to have viewings accompanied. The landlord is paying for the service and may not know that the agent is ripping them off.

been there..
