To think the new citizenship is waaaaay easier if this is the sort of thing that's going to be in it?

Sample questions here.

I got 8 out of 10 without even trying, and I could never get anywhere with the sample questions on the old one (67%, never any higher).
I can do all the history and culture stuff, it's the immigration and benefit stuff I'm crap on. What does everyone else think?

I got 10/10 too. I think cultural questions are better than the old ones they used to ask.

I took the sample American one and didn't get any better than 6/10. Although I suppose if I were wanting to live there I'd swot up on American history and facts so would do better?

Arisbottle · 27/01/2013 23:56

I scored 10 and the older one was harder but also rather random and meaningless. If I was not British and someone who read papers etc I may not get 10/10, which is the point is it not?

McNewPants2013 · 28/01/2013 00:00

i had 8/10 still passed :)

LadyBeagleEyes · 28/01/2013 00:04

10/10, really easy.

McNewPants2013 · 28/01/2013 00:05

www.800citizen.org/us_citizenship_test/american_citizen_test/

I picked new york and score 6/10 60% so it's a pass

skratta · 28/01/2013 00:15

10/10.

I'm Swedish.

Hmm
Illgetmegoat · 28/01/2013 00:18

I got 10/10 and I previously had no idea about some of the questions asked on the old test when my aunt was taking it - they seemed to be fairly redundant for a person that was just wanting to come and live/work here vs someone that was running some kind of statistical analysis on the UK; full of information that really held no value and in no way aided a view of what Englishness or Britishness was about or that was indicative of the things that would help on find their cultural feet. If they had been equivilent questions for another country they would not have given me any relevant idea about the history, culture or current important events in that country which are the things I would be immersing myself in as previously mentioned by pps. Interesting and a good move I hope.
I was born here to an Nth generation British family and I have never known what proportion of Wales is Buddhist nor has it ever been to my detriment!

skratta · 28/01/2013 00:26

On that US test, I did two states, fifty questions each. I got 98% on Connecticut (where I currently live) and 86% on West Virginia.

I seem to be fairly good, although not amazingly good for West Virginia, at citizenship tests.

M0naLisa · 28/01/2013 03:07

I got 9/10 but would have got 10/10 if i had have changed my answer about the jubilee question to 50 from 60

TalkinPeace2 · 28/01/2013 09:37

New York 10/10 :-)

MammaTJ · 28/01/2013 09:40

10/10 and I could not pass the old one.

Someone I am at college with had to take it to become a citizen and he challenged us to do it a long time ago. He told me I had to leave the country! Grin

EllenJaneisstillnotmyname · 28/01/2013 09:46

10/10 on the British one and 4/5 (Maryland, I've visited it twice) on the US one.

flow4 · 28/01/2013 09:51

There's a large part of me that doesn't want to be part of any national 'club' that wants to select its membership like this.

I think it's ridiculous to test people on the names of flags and the dates of historical events. If we have a national 'citizenship' test at all, I'd prefer questions that are currently relevant, like "What is the Bedroom Tax?" and "What proportion of young people under 25 are currently unemployed?"

bigmouthstrikesagain · 28/01/2013 09:54

10 /10 on uk test and 16/20 on New York citizen test (but I did do US History at A level 100 years ago) but I am not planning on applying for US citizenship any time soon.

DeepRedBetty · 28/01/2013 09:58

10 out of 10.

Only got 67% last time round.

Much more like it!

DreamingOfTheMaldives · 28/01/2013 10:26

10/10 for me. I can't remember what I scored on the old test but I remember it was difficult and the questions were a bit random and irrelevant
