I usually make my own fish pie but I was working, only me at home so I just picked up something quick for my tea

there was no fish in it!!!

it tasted fishy but no fish

and a white substance on the top that was pretending to be mash potato

are all ready meals that bad?

YANBU. Absolute waste of time. Lots of things masquerading as food. Blurgh.

HecateWhoopass · 27/01/2013 19:05

Yes.

eggsy11 · 27/01/2013 19:06

i'm doing weightwatchers.all there branded stuff is disguting, or just really tiny portions of regular stuff!

twofingerstoGideon · 27/01/2013 19:16

WW is 'low calorie/points' because the portions wouldn't feed a kitten. I bought some WW crisps. Apart from tasting vile there were about 6 crisps in the bag.

Losingexcessweight · 27/01/2013 20:36

I did ww once for a week and lost 6lb.

The reason? Because i was bloody starving!! Their portions are child sized and they do a hell of alot of rubbish like ready meals, chocolate, crisps and biscuits!

foodtech · 27/01/2013 20:52

The Trade Descriptions Act is no longer valid. It is now the unfair trading regulations (or something to that effect) but yes you have a point. YANBU

sausagesandwich34 · 27/01/2013 20:56

I'm not doing WW -they were just on offer

and now I know why!

Oh they are all vile. Made by Heinz, a company that should hang its head in shame. I still have a horrid sweetener like after taste in my mouth from a lunchtime can of WW soup. I thought surely Heinz know how to make tomato soup.....no, apparently not.

Tesco's light choices meals are equally horrid.

M&S make some reasonable low calorie ready meals if you are stuck.

Mockingcurl · 27/01/2013 21:00

I think the fish pie is particularly disgusting.
I'm doing ww and have lost 18lb. However, if I eat their products I don't lose any weight. I'm much better off eating normal, healthy food.

NothingIsAsBadAsItSeems · 27/01/2013 21:33

To be honest you would most likely be far better off joining Slimming World (or just looking at their mag/using their recipes) than bothering with WW, if you were dieting

DoItToJulia · 27/01/2013 21:37

Legally, it would be a breach of the Food Labelling Regulations as misleading the consumer.

Also, from a legal pov it should have quantified the fish in the ingredients list (ie 12%fish, or whatever)

However, I don't think you really wanted me to get that deep!

Technically, you have what is known as buyers remorse Wink !

manticlimactic · 27/01/2013 22:01

To be fair it's not called Fish pie it's called Ocean Pie.

www.heinz.co.uk/ourfood/weightwatchers/frozenreadymeals/ocean-pie-

but you would think it would have some fish in it - even the nasty crab stick stuff Grin

manticlimactic · 27/01/2013 22:03

Oh it says white fish 19%- probably the bitty little bits.

LineRunner · 27/01/2013 22:07

Ocean Pie.

Full of sea water and the manky remains of an albatross's saliva.

neveradullmomentinparadise · 27/01/2013 22:09

I almost wrote this exact same post a few days ago. I too bought a WW Ocean Pie recently, and only because it was on offer, and I really fancied fish pie. It was truly horrid, and unbelievably salty. The saltiness really shocked me - it was almost inedible.

DamnBamboo · 27/01/2013 22:12

There's a documentary on about them tomorrow night, Jane Moore is looking into them as a company and just why they are soooo rich!

Re trade descriptions act, you need to read the legal description of hte product rather than it's name (as they are not the same).

the legal description needs to appear on the front, under the name.

i.e. Beef lasagne (pasta sheets, beef mince, bechamel sauce, tomatoes cheese etc..)

This will tell you what's in it?

Also, where does fish appear in the list of ingredients?

pixwix · 27/01/2013 22:12

Bejesus - I had one once - it was on special offer, and I had it as a small snack between meals, cos I wasn't expecting much in terms of energy- just needed a small amount before I went training - It was vile! really grey and claggy!

DamnBamboo · 27/01/2013 22:13

With the exception of baked beans and ketchup, Heinz products are vile! Eurgh.

LineRunner · 27/01/2013 22:18

My DD says that tbh, when you weigh up the calories and ingredients and the likelihood of enjoying it, you may as well have a cheese burger.
