I applied for a job, past its closing date. Applied on Thursday and contacted on Friday inviting me to an interview on Monday.

I know of 2 people also with interviews for the same post, who both have lots more experience than me, and are both currently working in this field. (Early Years) The EYFS changed in September and I also started my support in teaching and learning at the same time, as I was struggling to find vacancies for a level 3 position. So my knowledge of EYFS is a little out of date, but I have a training revision for it on the 4th Feb. I still volunteer in the setting where I qualified as I wanted to keep my toes in the water, as it is a job I love.

So AIBU to be bricking it?
What will they ask me?

I would also have something prepared for the end of the interview...

The bit when they ask you if you have any questions or whether there is anything else you would like to say...

You could ask about training opportunities and progression within the role

Use the second part as a opportunity to sell yourself, say you are punctual, a good worker, enjoy working both within a team and independently.

I did some interviews last week and one candidate did not listen to the questions at all. Her answers were off at a tangent and rambling.

My top tips would be -

be punctual, arrive in time to visit the loo and comb your hair, check you haven't got lipstick on your teeth

If possible leave your coat with the receptionist, so you just have your bag to contend with

Take originals of all your qualification certificates and recent training certificates

Smile and seem genuinely interested in the position

If it is a panel interview, make sure you make eye contact with all members

At the end, smile, say thank you and leave the room with the minimum of fuss.

And finally, do your homework

Good luck :)

Can i just add one point. If you dont get the job ( and I am sure you will) don't be rude to the person who rings you to tell you. They may another job in a few months and how you react to the bad news could influence a future job.

It will be an equal opps interview, so when they ask you if you've any questions, ask "Is there anything I haven't covered?"- this will give the panel the opportunity to go off-script and ask you about something you may not have mentioned, or question you further on something you mentioned too briefly.

lifeisafunnyoldgame · 27/01/2013 13:17

I will ask them to give me feedback regardless of outcome, and I can't do rude even if I wanted to!

So if they ask me if I've any questions, put the ball in their court by asking if I've covered everything? And also training opportunities.

Brill.

Bit different as we're under Curriculum for Excellence, but I've been asked about strategeies for literacy, numeracy, language and communication, for children with additional needs and challenging behaviour. I've been asked about my proudest achievement and what I would hope to develop ig I got the job. The first question is always what would you bring to this position.

I'm not doing well as I never get the job sadly

lifeisafunnyoldgame · 27/01/2013 13:24

Also, I never read the advertisement for the vacancy, which had details of pay, I can't ask about this though can I?

Enthusiam is fine, as is calm and caring, a good sense of humour, being able to work as part of a team and a passion for early years.
I always tell them I can make excellent playdough and am good with a computer

Wow!! Well that was an experience. The interview seemed to go really well, the panel were lovely. Felt as though I was waffling on though!!

I can't really speak for others but I'm sure that we all hope you get it. All interviews are knee-knocking events.

When do you hear?
