Could someone explain to this newbie what my faux pas was?

I had a thread on here talking about cleaners and what people expect for what they pay them. It was deleted for breaking the talk rules. It was a cordial thread. I didn't see any abusive language. I certainly didn't use any. Nobody seemed at all upset at any point.

And, there was no spamming. No links or touting any products or services. I make a point of keeping my Internet fun (mn, other social sites) separate from my professional life, so I always decline to tell anyone where I work if they ask me.

So, I'm scratching my head wondering what I did wrong? I think it maybe wasn't a true AIBU topic (but I did ask AIBU to want £X per hour for cleaning).

Anyway, I think MN is a great forum and wonderfully moderated, so I'm not complaining. I just want to make sure if I've done something wrong I don't do it again.

I only read it in the early stages but have no idea. Good luck! Why not report your post above to get an answer?

Oh! Is that how one contacts admin? I didn't know. Thank you.

To be honest, I think it's pathetic when people whinge about having posts deleted. I am not butthurt about it. I'm just wondering what I did wrong so I don't do it again!

I didn't see the thread so I have no idea, but it could have been that other posters became argumentative amongst themselves so it was deleted. It may have been nothing to do with you and not your fault at all, even if it was your thread.

KatyTheCleaningLady · 26/01/2013 22:23

It said it was deleted. Would it say "moved to chat?" or just look like it was deleted.

It definitely said it was deleted for breaking the talk rules.

I think they usually send you an email if they delete one of your threads.

MN is self moderated, posters report and MNHQ decide whether it's breaking the guidelines or not.

I didn't see the thread, but don't let it put you off MN, plenty of room for everyone

KatyTheCleaningLady · 26/01/2013 22:24

CloudsAndTrees I thought of that, but not much time had elapsed since I'd last looked at the thread (five minutes?) and I never saw any ruffled feathers. A couple of people maybe rather crisply said that IWBU, but nobody seemed bent out of shape in the least.

I had a thread deleted and am not quite sure why, as I've seen many similar threads (it was about a funny ebay item), I didn't get an email to let me know.

AgentZigZag I didn't get an email.

And, don't worry! I'm not put off! I like it here. Grin

I just don't want to Do It Wrong, if that's what I'm doing.

Maybe they thought you were advertising your services, from the thread title. I didn't see the thread.

WorraLiberty · 26/01/2013 22:27

Yes report your OP so HQ see it and will probably reply.

Or for future reference, start a thread in Site Stuff and they'll probably reply there.

Would you like us all to report this for you?

There was a thread earlier about a woman who thought her cleaner was stealing her shampoo, maybe MNHQ thought yor thread was a reference about that one so deleted it? No threads about threads allowed.

trixymalixy · 26/01/2013 22:29

I think it's possible the thread was deleted because you were doing research for the purpose of opening a business. You normally have to pay for requests such as that.

KatyTheCleaningLady · 26/01/2013 22:30

WorraLiberty HA! No, I've reported myself. I just hope MNHQ don't think I'm a trouble-maker!

DoItToJulia · 26/01/2013 22:30

Butthurt!? Never heard of that! But I like it!

Ask MNHQ, it can't hurt to find out.

FelicityWasCold · 26/01/2013 22:31

I don't know, i asked you a question and when I popped back to see if you'd replied it had all been deleted.

I'm as Confused as you- unless they thought you were advertising I suppose.

WorraLiberty · 26/01/2013 22:31

Oops well I did it too Blush

I'm sure they don't think you're a trouble maker! Grin

KatyTheCleaningLady · 26/01/2013 22:31

Trixy Oh! That is possible. I wasn't doing research for opening a business (I already have a business) but I will admit that I am curious to hear what people are thinking. I thought we were about to deviate into a fascinating discussion of what labour was worth (we'd started talking about what minimum wage ought to be for in regards to a clerical worker on the thread who is clearly underpaid.)

OP posts:
Booyhoo · 26/01/2013 22:37

i thought it was ok to ask what others pay/charge for things like cleaning, childminding etc? i've seen loads of threads asking "how much should i charge in X area for cleaning" Confused

KatyTheCleaningLady · 26/01/2013 22:39

I thought so, too. I've also seen people asking for specific advice on starting a business, although not necessarily in AIBU.
