To want to talk about the pay, conditions, travel and workload

of a job dh is applying for. It's a promotion but because he is well paid where he is now, would not bring on extra income, would be further to travel and increased workload. I absolutely think he should go for it, but before it gets any further, I want to really know the possible implications for our family. I struggle at the moment with tiredness, as we have a very poor sleeping dd2 and two other children and I am concerned about how I'll manage with added workload, and I need to earn an income soon too. I can understand why he thinks I am being slightly negative but I think we could have a "brilliant go for it - but let's go into it with wide open eyes and plan" chat. Guess we could wait until he gets an interview of course! But Aibu to want to know what we're potentially getting into.

How can you discuss something without having the full facts? He may get flexible hours, or a chance to earn overtime.
Don't put the dampeners on before he even has an interview.

Dh brought it up again when we were sitting with a gu pudding and cup of tea with all the dc in bed and it all felt a lot better! I think a few days of everyone being a bit ill, the prospect of dh being away done of next week and me being a bit fed up meant I was being a bit gloomy about something which is a fantastic opportunity. Sorry!

Would it be the sort of travel that could be reduced by moving closer to that workplace (ie is it commuting not traipsing round the country as part of his job)? If so, might that be something you could consider, as a way to limit the increase in the burden on you all?

Would it definitely be no extra income? Is there anything negotiable there?

Could he work from home at all? Would that help with the impact on family life (or would it not be practical because of noise/space requirements?

'a gu pudding and a cup of tea with all the dc in bed'

That is heaven in a sentence, right there Smile

Looking back two or three hours I'm now embarrassed to say the increased travel is fifteen minutes each way! Working from home trickier - he teaches - but fgs he's home thirteen weeks a year. Ignore me-forgot which side bread buttered. Pmt and sleep dep are lethal to positivity for me. It's a stepping stone to much bigger things too. If he actually got it. Sidling off now to count blessings.

Hmm... it does put a different slant on it.

Maybe you need more gu pudding. Smile
