To have lurked for so long that am terrified of being an OP?

Apologies if done to oblivion already.

Have been lurking for an embarrassing YEAR & now feel cannot continue to spy on "active" for any longer without contributing. Actually feel like a voyeur.

Did the rest of you just plough on in without anxiety? Or feel actual Dutch courage was needed to start? Am I just a huge wimp?

A YEAR for heavens sake.

I picked a random topic that seemed not too controversial, and then dived straight in. I think I had been lurking for a week or two.

I think the topic was stuff you've never done that most people have done, inspired by a friend who admitted that she'd never seen a Bond film.

AllYoursBabooshka · 25/01/2013 20:50

I think everyone gets flamed in their MN lives, even if it's just a light toasting.

:o fluffy, I've been posting for 2 years and still get that feeling. It's even worse when you have customized your posts to be highlighted bright purple.

It mocks you.

Nagoo · 25/01/2013 21:04

oooh Hello :)

A year though?

How do you shush for a year!?

Diamondcassis · 25/01/2013 21:06

NC. You have to be kidding.

Took me a year to post. How long do you think I sat hovering over the nickname (thank you quality)?

Do feel better now though so thanks for the welcome. Another Wine & maybe I'll ask an actual question.

I couldn't keep my mouth shut for a year.

Diamondcassis · 25/01/2013 21:20

Well in RL my mouth is well not shut, but I just couldn't quite go for it here. And was always amused enough just to watch. And watch. And watch. And then I started feeling a bit grubby.

talc - v lovely, thank you, that's exactly it.

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 25/01/2013 21:22

Just get stuck in then

TalcAndTurnips · 25/01/2013 22:10

So what was the trigger that caused you to post in the end, Diamond?

I think it can be a very good idea, to lurk for a while. Quite often it is apparent when a new poster has not judged the 'feel' of MN fully - although of course it shouldn't matter, really, but it does Grin - and a first foray into the arena of AIBU ends in the most spectacular fracas, with dismemberings and shrieking.

Followed by a door slam on the way out that cracks the little window on the AIBU door. MNHQ then have to call out Trevor, who comes and repairs the damage yet again, with his glass cutter and pot of window putty.

LiveItUp · 25/01/2013 22:19

OMG - only just noticed "they" have given us lovely emoticons to play with. Presumably just for toady. [bgrin]

Hi Diamond. Welcome [bwink]

usualsuspect · 25/01/2013 22:28

I love the word fracas.

GingersarealwaysToms · 25/01/2013 22:34

fluffy no no that's me. Just watch. This will be the last post on this thread. There's something wrong with me.

GingersarealwaysToms · 25/01/2013 22:35

And Hello, welcome Diamond Don't really feel in a position to say "welcome" but welcome anyway.

TalcAndTurnips · 25/01/2013 22:36

LiveItUp - I always think that the Burns Night [bconfused] looks like a Mongolian wrestler.

moodyblue · 25/01/2013 22:37

I'm reading this with interest as a fellow long-term lurker. Decided to look at my profile to check just how long-term..... joined in April 2008!! Shock. Have been plucking up courage to jump in for a while now so thanks for the arm bands diamondcassis!

TalcAndTurnips · 25/01/2013 22:38

moody - have you never posted in all that time? Shock

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 25/01/2013 22:38

OP YABVVVVVVU to hide such a lovely sparkly Diamond name for so long.

Few Hearts around here, not so many Diamonds Grin

WorraLiberty · 25/01/2013 22:41

I read the title as "To have lurked for so long that am terrified of being an OAP?"

I was going to say, that's some fucking lurking that is Shock

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 25/01/2013 22:43

I'm definitly a thread killer too. Very demoralising it is.

moodyblue · 25/01/2013 22:45

Talc - I posted on the skidmarks thread yesterday and I think maybe once before that (not on aibu). Had a husband who would sneer every time he saw I was on mn which put me off but he left us in May so I can do wtf I like now Smile

shebangsthedrum · 25/01/2013 22:49

Me too! I joined about a fortnight ago, but had only lurked for a month or so. I also hovered about on netmums to see which I fit into best. I think I fit in much better here as I am not very fluffy and mumsy for a mum. I have just changed my nickname though, I got bored of the other one already. Not going to keep doing it though.

TalcAndTurnips · 25/01/2013 22:51

moody - yes, you bloody well can! [bgrin]

Were you not tempted to post when that was all happening back in May?

Snog · 25/01/2013 22:54

I am doing my first Aibu thread this evening
It's going great
It took me 13 years to try one but I could get addicted
Go for it OP

Diamondcassis · 25/01/2013 23:00

Talc - triggers: bad cold, DH out tonight & just crossed a voyeuristic hurdle

Moody - how exciting to have a fellow doggy paddler, shall we dive?

Worra - made me bang head on attic roof laughing. Quite sore actually

HTD - bow

Phew, lots of button pressing to do all the bold stuff etc

TalcAndTurnips · 25/01/2013 23:05

Well bloody well done Thanks

You know there's no going back now, don't you?

You'll be discussing sex towels and Centre Parcs by the end of the weekend. In fact, you could combine the two: AIBU to demand that Centre Parcs should provide post-coital facilities in their chalets?
