I don't know what I'm doing with links, but if it doesn't work, it's a photo of a bunch of men caressing their beer bellies in the way pregnant women cuddle their unborn babies, in an 'hilarious' pisstake.

Am I the only one who doesn't get why this is so amusing? I'm told I'm taking it too seriously and can't take a joke, but I don't think one section of society should have to take being a running joke tbh, especially not at their most vulnerable.

These people have no idea about the experience and physical and emotional difficulties of pregnancy, and their show of insensitivity and ignorance is irritating to me. AIBU?

Sorry, I think the men are taking the piss out of themselves not pregnant women.

Catchingmockingbirds · 25/01/2013 09:25

I'm pregnant with a big bump, I still found it funny. Yabu sorry.

ScarletLady02 · 25/01/2013 09:26

This thread is reminding me of the episode of The Young Ones where Vyvyan is pregnant Grin

merlottits · 25/01/2013 09:26

Oh God I fell for it didn't I? Whoops!

Catchingmockingbirds · 25/01/2013 09:27

And I have SPD too, still chuckled at the pics.

PickledInAPearTree · 25/01/2013 09:27

I'm 37 weeks now - I'm not great at being pregnant get down hormonal and all that not a bloomer.

I don't feel vulnerable but I do feel like shite.

But the pictures aren't making fun of people like me. They are big fat hairy men doing Demi moores and I fund them funny.

I don't think pregnant women are a sub species that need to be protected from light hearted stuff like this.

squeakytoy · 25/01/2013 09:27

A trip or fall can be serious to anyone! pregnant or not.

WorraLiberty · 25/01/2013 09:29

In lots of ways! Emotionally, you have hormones all over the place. I know it doesn't affect everyone but I had SPD and had very limited mobility and was in a lot of pain. A trip or fall could be very serious when pregnant, when the same tumble would be nothing to a non-pg person

What does that have to with some fat guys in a photo, posing for a laugh? Confused

Society has become humourless enough without searching for things to be offended by.

Catchingmockingbirds · 25/01/2013 09:29

If you were offended by those pics then this link will send you over the edge; www.telegraph.co.uk/women/mother-tongue/9824535/Men-scream-in-agony-during-labour-simulation.html

AngelWreakinHavoc · 25/01/2013 09:31

It made me laugh. They are not taking the piss out of pregnant Women at all, They are taking the piss out of themselves.
I think the one on the bottom left is hilarious Grin

squeakytoy · 25/01/2013 09:33

The only way it could possibly be seen as taking the piss, is due to the never ending number of heavily pregnant z list "celebs" who think the whole world is desperate to see them copying Demi Moore..

MikeOxardInTheSnow · 25/01/2013 09:35

Hmm. Well I'm not usually a miserable bastard, or pearl-clutch, at all! But 2 pages of unanimous YABUs doesn't look good...

In my defence, I had fucking horrendous pregnancies, and have been subject to serious sexual discrimination (told I could not have a job because it was a 'man's' job, and it was given to a man with no qualifications or experience over me even though I had a few years experience of the job and a relevant degree and post-grad qualification)! So I suppose I am a bit humourless when I see anything that gives the impression of belittling women.

OP posts:
BatCave · 25/01/2013 09:35

Not offended, I think you've read way too much into it.

I am slightly disturbed by men tucking willys between their legs, but I think that's just me Grin

expatinscotland · 25/01/2013 09:36

I find it funny.

Flobbadobs · 25/01/2013 09:36

You're right OP, it's not funny. It's hilarious and you've reminded me of my DH striking the very same pose at me when I was pg!
YABU.

squeakytoy · 25/01/2013 09:38

But it isnt "belittling" anyone!

MikeOxardInTheSnow · 25/01/2013 09:39

Catchingmockingbirds That story I don't have a problem with! I'm glad they stopped before they had to push a golf ball out of their penises or something though!

OP posts:
BupcakesAndCunting · 25/01/2013 09:42

I don't think it's very funny just because it's not my sense of humour, tbh.

What I got from it was that they were cradling their beer bellies with the same pride that a woman would cradle their pregnant stomachs i.e that the beer belly is their baby?

AngelWreakinHavoc · 25/01/2013 09:42

Catchingmockingbirds Shock Grin

YorkshireDeb · 25/01/2013 09:43

Try looking at it again op, with the things that have been said in your mind. Can you see it differently? Can you see the silly Demi mooreness of it or their pride it their well cultivated beer bellies? X

MikeOxardInTheSnow · 25/01/2013 09:43

But it isnt "belittling" anyone! Isn't it, you sure?! It seems to me a bit 'haha, look this is like being pregnant'. And that's not what it's like at all - it's not just having a big belly and posing for pictures, that's what I find quite insulting I suppose.

I am quite sure.

YorkshireDeb · 25/01/2013 09:45

Do you find it equally offensive seeing celebs posing like that then? X

Tabliope · 25/01/2013 09:56

I actually laughed out loud I thought it that funny. Some of those expressions. It's not mocking pregnant women, it is mocking celebs posing like Demi Moore though - I think there were two celebs doing the precious pregnant pose in the DM yesterday plus a few others recently posting pictures on Twitter.
