My eats like a horse. Today he had 2 weetabix a boiled egg, tea and toast for breakfast. Tea and homemade soda bread for elevenses, 2 big bowls of homemade soup, fried chicken, mash and buttered swede and then a bowl of ovenbaked rice pudding for lunch. An apple and half a bag of liquorice allsorts for afternoon snack, a bacon butty, fruit cake and carrot cake and a pint of tea for his tea. He has just mullered the other half bag of liquorice all sorts and is talking about a mug of cocoa as it's near his bedtime.

AIBU to think at 90 the norm for his ilk is Complan and Werthers?

He pulls the half starved orphan routine (complete with quivering lip) if I suggest cutting back on the baking...He then tells me he is doing me a favour eating all the cakes, pies and buns as it would be a mortal sin to allow them to go stale.

Maybe he has worms?

When a friend of my nans got into her 80s she decided that she was going to indulge herself and no longer eat the veges etc she hated, or do anything else she didnt like.

From then on she lived in her pajamas and existed almost solely on chocolate and covered chocolate biscuits. She lively very happily for another ten years Grin

OP Your owl daddy would have got on great with my granny. That would have been exactly what she would have said too! Or she would have told him he was a divil of a man. Grin

If I make it to 90 years old I am going to eat all the things and take up smoking again!!

That's my plan.

susanann · 25/01/2013 17:37

Good for him. Thats pretty awesome! lol

scottishmummy · 25/01/2013 19:12

when I'm 90 will take up drinking, smoking ,garish clothes and younger men

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 25/01/2013 19:21

I so hope I am like him at 90! God, it would be something to look forward to if one could guarantee we'd all end up like him. I saw a 98 year old this morning on the news who still worked 3 days a week in a pub! She was amazing!

fieldfare · 25/01/2013 19:27

He sounds fabulous! I insist you bake him more cakes and leave him be. I am grinning at the thought of him scrounging more cake from your neighbour!

scottishmummy · 25/01/2013 19:34

Gunznroses · 25/01/2013 19:35

Way to go dad! He sounds awesome!

boredSAHMof4 · 25/01/2013 19:57

There's a 92 yo man in our running club who trains 3 times a week and often does a 10k race on the weekends too.I should imagine he needs to eat plenty.

Cailinsalach · 25/01/2013 20:34

Well it seems the Da is a hit on here with all the bakers. I told him I grassed him up to Mumsnet and he has offered to deal with all the surplus buns you can throw at him I presume he meant that figuratively.
The shopping bill is significant. I am resigned to an inheritance of a few cake crumbs . He had another epicurean day of delight and requested that I make a bread and butter pudding for him tomorrow and a treacle cake. As its Saturday tomorrow, he likes a big fry for tea. His ambition for this year is to win the Oldest Man In The Parish at the OAP Christmas Party. He reckons the guy who won it this year hasn't another year in him. He is a competitive geriatric.
I loved all the stories about these hungry OAPs.

Cor OP! Bet your dad 'scores' with all the ladies in your parish and at the xmas party Grin

Dahlialover · 25/01/2013 21:36

I had a 98 year old friend. The first thing I noticed about him (we were out for lunch with a group) was his healthy appetite. He was an absolute gentleman, used to sing for the mothers union, and was president of the local brass band. He was a great charmer and got TWO kisses out of me last time I saw him. Sadly, his diminishing appetite went along with a few other problems he started having and he died after a fall. He was such fun whilst he was here :)

Foggles · 25/01/2013 21:40

It sounds like he has a good old fashioned appetite.

The type you were allowed to have before the food police arrived and spoilt our fun. Grin

Morloth · 26/01/2013 11:06

Imagine, just having a ciggie, a double espresso and a chunk of chocolate for breakfast, safe in the knowledge that it is not going to make any bloody difference. Bliss.

Roll on old age. Though I don't intend to get very old.Wink

Thingiebob · 26/01/2013 11:15

My mum has stopped eating vegetables. Her excuse is 'I've had 60 odd years of eating the fucking things, I've had enough'.

Mabelface · 26/01/2013 11:31

Hell, at his age, I'll be back on the fags, mainlining vodka and eating any shit I fancy. Good man. Grin

pjmama · 26/01/2013 11:33

Ha ha brilliant Thingiebob! Your mum is ace.

AmberLeaf · 26/01/2013 11:42

Ah he sounds lovely!

Its heartbreaking to see an old person lose their appetite, so Id keep feeding him.

At that age he deserves to have what he enjoys.

Mockingcurl · 26/01/2013 11:42

When I'm 90 I'm going to live entirely in chocolate. Loads of it. I might even start at 60. YABU.

OscarPistoriusBitontheside · 26/01/2013 11:42

He sounds brilliant! What a legend! I wish my nanna, age 90, had his joie d'vivre! She makes a big deal out of not eating enough or drinking enough despite still being very mobile and fit, but she's got it into her head that she is old and must be frail, even though she isn't!

If I get to that age I shall smoke, drink and be generally raucous!

mrsjay · 26/01/2013 11:46

If he he can't stuff himself with grub at 90 when can he bless him you must be a fab cook Smile

mrsjay · 26/01/2013 11:48

my old neighbour had a fall when she was 95 and had to go into a care home

up until then she was going to the bingo meeting her friends at the club entertaining her 2 GENTLEMEN FRIENDS on 2 different nights one a wednesday the other a sunday, and generally being an embarrassment to her 65 yr old daughter

she was a true legend Grin

clicketyclick66 · 26/01/2013 11:52

Awwww, Cailínsalach - I'd love to have your Dad as a neighbour. Sounds like he is a social butterfly, very active and a much loved guy.

OP, why are you a dirty girl??????
