AIBU to be annoyed that my bin won't be emptied for 4 weeks due to snow!!

I am probably BU, but I am annoyed and would like a rant, feel free to tell me IABU!!

Bins (general rubbish and recycling) were due to be emptied on Monday 21st. Council are now on 2 weekly collections. We had snow Sunday night as many others did. Probably about 3 inches here. I went out on the Monday morning and drove the 7 mile journey to take my DS to school. The roads were a little slushy on the side roads, but had been well gritted, so were quite passable.

Yet the council saw fit to suspend bin collections. The whole road still has bins out. It is a main road. There was no issue in accessing the bins. I have been trying to find information online to tell me what is happening, as I have rubbish that needs to go in them, its stacking up and smelling in my kitchen, plus the bins are on the street.

So the information states 'For those residents whose black bin was due to be collected on Monday, their next collection will be in two weeks? time as scheduled.'

So I have 4 weeks of rubbish, including nappies (8 week old baby). Nowhere to put the excess rubbish. DP's car is in the garage and currently undergoing repairs. I'm still recovering from a birth injury and mobilising can be painful, but I will have to go to the tip with the extra rubbish probably at least twice a week for the next 2 weeks, as I can't leave it to accumulate in the kitchen all that time. The cats will shred it to pieces if we put it outside. (DP not insured to drive my car - if I take him with me to get rid of the rubbish, it means taking 2 kids, and the car is cramped enough as it is - a tiny clio with us and the bloody rubbish!!)

Also, the local tips have been closed down, so its a 20 minute journey each way.

AIBU to be annoyed? Mostly at the fact that the bloody council stopped the bin collections when the roads were accessible?!

Ah, at least other fucking stupid councils are adopting the same policy. I feel less alone now! Grin

YANBU to want your bins collected. I would bag up your recycling and leave in garden where it won't attract pests and stash smelly waste in recycling bin until collection day. You might want to ring and check (ring because waste management services often forget about updating the web!) that side waste (bags of rubbish/recyling not in wheelie bins) will be collected in the next collection.

BUT councils are stretched so tight these days that the people who drive the grit lorries are probably those who drive the bin wagons. And if they are out gritting 2/3 times a day or night (like where I live) they can't physically do the day driving (too many hours). Roads have to be gritted as a priority otherwise whole towns and businesses grind to a halt.

Other bin crews have prob being put on snow clearance/street gritting.

There is no slack in public services these days! And it's totally shit!

Put it into smaller bags and put into the public bins if you visit the shops.

YANBU - That's disgraceful and it must be a health risk to have nappy waste hanging around for so long.

I live on an estate on a road that has little passing traffic so our road was not gritted and was very snowy. You also have to go up a fairly steep hill to access it. I actually commented to my neighbour as we were both putting our bins out that I wouldn't fancy getting the rubbish truck along here. BUT they came and took recycling and general waste in one truck plus another truck for garden waste. I was amazed but pleased.

In your circumstances being on the main road I would expected you to have no problems and they should have taken into account that you only have fortnightly collections anyway. Do you have a friend or family member with a big boot who could take your rubbish to the tip?
