to not want to change my FB profile pic to one of me BFing?

I've been invited by several people to a "nurse-in" on FB today - the idea being that you change your profile picture to one of you BFing, to protest against them removing BFing photos.

I should start by saying that I still feed my 22 month old and am a huge proponent of BFing. I think that FB's rules on decency are ridiculous and if people want to post BFing photos, that's up to them.

However I've never personally posted a photo of DD feeding, and don't really want to start now. I'm not embarrassed - in principle I have no issue with anybody seeing me feed - but I just don't feel the need to plaster it on FB. I'm not a serial picture poster as it is.

I also am aware that I have a couple of friends on there who've had babies very recently and wanted to BF, but didn't get past the first couple of weeks. I feel like it could be rubbing their noses in it - look at me still feeding my toddler! - and although I know we can't avoid BFing altogether for fear of hurting the feelings of anybody who couldn't, I don't want to upset/annoy people.

I feel like a huge hypocrite though. I wish that BFing could be normalised, and that's obviously all the nurse-in is working to achieve. So I should be joining in really. But I don't want to. AIBU?

YANBU you don't have to. Just ignore it

threesocksmorgan · 22/01/2013 11:02

yanbu
I never get this crap on fb

WilsonFrickett · 22/01/2013 11:15

Cat, I meant I didn't want to see nudity in general, not BF pics in particular and I think it's far easier to have a blanket ban rather than saying 'some boobs are ok, others aren't'.

GirlOutNumbered · 22/01/2013 11:16

YANBU Facebook is really starting to piss me off. Like this and I can have a puppy, look at this video it will make you cry and now post a picture of me breastfeeding!! FFS. I don't want all of my friends to see a picture of me feeding... Why would I?

Who actually cares. Facebook is just a website. I wish people cared more about things that actually MATTER.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 22/01/2013 11:25

No dont, why would you want to.

These FB campaigns are just ridiculous!! These emails they send round asking you to just say set your status as the colour of your bra to promote breast cancer awareness......really?? I think not!!

I don't want to see photos of my friend b'fding....why would I?? A photo of it..just wierd!

Cat98 · 22/01/2013 11:26

But wilson, fb doesn't have a blanket ban - it allows more revealing pics than most bf ones, and I don't think you can equate bf to nudity!

AreYouADurtBirdOrALadyBird · 22/01/2013 11:52

Actually, thinking about it,I don't particularly care for pictures of anybody eating. I also Hmm at pictures of peoples dinners on fb.

I credit fb with the prevalence of morans. Silly 'like if you support whatever shite they are campaigning about'.If you want to raise awareness then volunteer as a bf support in your local hospital or for cancer do a sponsered event.

AnyFucker · 22/01/2013 11:58

You can support things in your own way. It isn't hypocritical to not post your own pic. I support a local DV charity. I don't feel I have to "demonstrate" anything to prove my commitment.

Do it or don't do it.

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 22/01/2013 12:03

I remember this story of FB taking down another picture that broke their nudity policy. I think they changed their minds after an email campaign (if I recall correctly) but not with a mass profile picture change. I'm sure it won't achieve much.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 22/01/2013 13:33

Meh, I've done it but YANBU to not want to, its up to you.

I also dont believe in the "pick a fruit against breast cancer and dont tell the menz" crap or "like this picture if you are against animal abuse", but I think showing people I feed DS, and manage to do so without "flopping my tit out" does raise awareness that people do it and it isnt offensive.
