Firstly I don't know where this should go- I don't want to post this on mental health because people have bigger issues than me on there and don't know how to post on chat on mobile.

I have an interview tomorrow- 3rd interview and they have asked me to do a presentation which I spent all weekend preparing. I have been in my current job for 3 years and I'm really fed up and ds is 18mo and I feel like I can move to this place with the least risk or affecting childcare so I reaaaaally want this.

Problem is I'm getting panic attacks I'm shaking as I type this and as I was running through the presentation with a friend my head started shaking uncontrollablyConfused what can I do to calm down? I'm on the verge of tears and I'm usually so calm about everything I don't know why this is happening. I know the worst that can happen is I don't get it- at this rate the I may cry mid presentation and that would be a bit worse

I suffer from panic attacks when presenting but this article really helped - esp the part that tells you that, no matter how you are feeling, you will get to the end

Good luck tmr.

The first job I got after ds I was so nervous I was visibly shaking. I got the job.
Also, remember that if you get the job, within a month the people who are interviewing you will simply be The One Who Uses Your Special Teabags and The One Who Can't Shut Up About His Holiday. They are just people, and they all had to interview to be there too.
Think to yourself "I am the best person for this job" and believe it.
Go get 'em!

Snugabugz · 21/01/2013 20:17

Not sure if this helps or not but I was once on an interview panel where a candidate did burst into tears and ran out of the room due to nerves.

As prospective employers we did all we could to persuade her to return and complete the presentation. It was clear that she'd prepared well and really wanted the job. Interviewers are human too and will understand that giving a presentation in an interview situation is a stressful thing to do.

Good luck

Good luck today op let us know how it goes Grin

Sunnywithshowers · 22/01/2013 08:59

Good luck OP :) x

I've been on interview panels as part of my job & think often it works in people's favour when they're a bit nervous - it's quite clear that they really want the job & that's a positive thing. The worst kind of candidate is one who seems like they couldn't care less if they get it or not. Assuming they provide you with a glass of water make use if it - take little sips throughout your interview to give you chance to compose your thoughts. And maybe think about buying yourself a herbal remedy today - I've not tried rescue remedy but kalms is pretty good. Good luck - and let us know how you get on. X

DeepRedBetty · 22/01/2013 09:09

Was going to post very similar to Snugabugz - I've interviewed more people than I've had interviews myself now. (I've never had an interviewee run away in tears though...) - and just want to assure you we ARE human, we wouldn't have asked you back for a third time if we weren't extremely interested, and we do know how nerve-wracking it is. We're nervous too, we want you to decide to work for us if we offer you the job. Even in the current buyer's market for jobs, getting the right staff isn't a doddle. It's taken three attempts to find my current head assistant, and now I'm worried that she's going to get head-hunted!

I don't suppose you'll see this 'til afterwards, but good luck and tell us how you got on.

galwaygirl · 22/01/2013 09:16

Not sure if I'm too late but I hate giving presentations and did a course on them where I stopped mid presentation as I was so embarrassed by how nervous and embarrassed I was and assumed it was obvious however when watching back the video I didn't look half as nervous as I felt.
My point is try not to think about your voice shaking etc as it won't be as obvious to your audience as you think x

eslteacher · 22/01/2013 09:45

Good luck for today!

This is probably too late, but anyway. I play an instrument and get really nervous and shaky playing in public (even though its only amateur stuff!). So anyway, leading up to a public performance, every time I practice at home I visualise as strongly as possible how it will be in the hall/on the stage, imagine all the eyes on me and try to summon that feeling of fear, so that I can then practice putting it to one side and playing through it. Definitely works for me, rather than trying to convince myself not to be nervous at all.

Canihavesomemore · 22/01/2013 18:47

I did it! I did it (running to MN b4 dh) GrinI began shaky asked if I should sit or stand the md was v casual and said sit, I'm not here to grill u, calmed me down straight away! They were genuinely interested about things I had to say and asked questions because they didn't know the answer followed by a good 1 hr interview! Won't have an answer for a week as they have more candidates Hmm but I did it! Thank u all so much I read this thread before going in and it helped!

At the moment you feel everything hinges on this interview - well it doesn't! Try to care less about the outcome. Try and enjoy the interview.
