to not understand why

Dc's school is shut when every other primary in town is open. Why is it that some teacher's seem to struggle to get into work but other occupations manage it? Snow and roads not bad in our area. All main routes gritted as lots of staff live locally.

Often due to insurance if they can't clear the site and make it safe for staff and students.

A school's decision to shut is rarely based solely on the fact that staff can't get in. It's usually because the heating is broken, the site cannot be cleared adequately, the school meal delivery cannot get through, bus companies are advising of cancellations or delays etc.

If it's the only school shut in the area, my bet's on the heating being broken.

School advised us that it is because staff can't in. Poir decision I feel.

Sometimes you get duff decisions. I'd rather a school decide to shut before everyone traipses in and makes the occasional duff decision than open, let everyone struggle in then shut early and have everyone turn round and go back.

Ours is open though even though pretty much every other school around here is shut and the snow is crazy!

Not everyone in other professions can get in, but the majority of teachers need to be in as each class needs a teacher. Say 40 out of 55 teachers can get in, it's not much use as 15 classes won't have enough staff, so it makes sense to close the school rather than order certain classes to attend while others stay home.
