To propose zero tolerance on snowballs?

OK, so, throwing snowballs can be fun, with a bunch of mates, if you're dressed for it (even I was young once)

BUT

collecting a load of snow, packing it down into a lump of ice, and hurling it into the face and/or windscreen of random passers-by is unpleasant and potentially dangerous. It could get into their eye, probably will get down their neck and in the case of vehicles, could cause an accident. If you were to throw anything other than snow into someone's face or at someone's car you'd be in big trouble, right? So why does the fact that it's cold and made of water let you off being able to attack strangers with hand-made missiles?

There should be a law against it. I suggest a suitable punishment would be being placed in the stocks and pelted with, guess what - snowballs. I may or may not feel humane enough to allow the prisoners to wear goggles to prevent eye damage, when I've cooled down a bit.

Hi OP, same thing happened to me. My lovely car got pelted from behind by a bunch of kids who then ran off laughing. Honest to god I thought someone had gone into the back if me. Scared the crap out of me!

I second your motion of banning snowballs and propose refereed matches in designated areas only by willing participants Grin

YANBU. On Friday a group of about 12 15/16 year olds did this to me while I was driving back from collecting my ds and his mate from their school. They were from local secondary school. Luckily I was driving very very slowly as they were running into the middle of the road and then smashing snowballs into windscreen. They did not bank on me pulling over and having words.

Asked them seriously but nicely at first if they had any idea how hard it is to drive in such conditions. A few looked sheepish but a couple were very mouthy. They then backed off and started throwing snowballs at me but they were not well aimed. I went home and called their school and non emergency police. Just so that they could speak to school not to go out to them.

They had had three complaints already and apparently if a snowball had hit me it would have been classed as an assault!

My son is 15 I am not a killjoy but these boys were a danger to themselves and others.

But I thoroughly enjoyed watching my son and his mates having a good old snowball fight amongst themselves. Not annoying anyone coz they stop if passer by comes along.

Snowfights are fine as long as all parties are willing to take part.

I hate snow Angry but I do throw some loose snowballs to my dog because he loves it.

Yes, exactly. Nothing at all wrong with throwing snowballs if you're all enjoying it and have consideration for others.

Local kiddies here have flung well-packed snowballs very hard at my lounge window a few times (not to mention small unripe fruits in late summer and the occasional pebble) and, apart from being startled, I fear one of these days it'll break.
