bed time too late

next door neighbours have an 11year old and 20 month old. Every night round about 8.30pm you can hear 20 month old running round and play time in the living room with him, fair enough, but every night from 9.15 til 9.45 you can hear 20 month screaming and shouting(temper and tantrum)still in the living room. Surely that's too late for him to be up. Don't see the point of a child that age being up at that time.

Do you know them really well? There could be a very good reason...

mrswoz · 19/01/2013 20:17

if the noise is bothering you, deal with it as you would any other annoying noise, and discuss it with your neighbour. It's irrelevant and none of your business WHAT is causing the noise.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 19/01/2013 20:17

If you are annoyed at the noise then ok maybe YANBU.

If you are just worried about the badtime then YABU and should MYOB.

*bedtime

CreamOfTomatoSoup · 19/01/2013 20:17

I think you should probably go and tell them this. Don't sit on this important information.

Insanitywithlittlepeople · 19/01/2013 20:18

Maybe a late bedtime works for them. Their reasons are non of your business. If the noise is bothering you take them up on it but otherwise YABU

But if you approach them and say that you have an opinion on how late their children stay up, you will likely get short shrift!

AltinkumATEalltheTurkey · 19/01/2013 20:19

It's up to the parents what time their children sleep, shock horror not all children have a bed time.

YABU

Ha post fail, sorry. I go with my second reply it's much more sensible Grin

DrCoconut · 19/01/2013 20:26

DS2 is 21 months and is often up at this time. It suits us to not be tied to an early and rigid routine and he is healthy and happy. And we aren't up madly early either! We'd find that much harder to cope with than a child who is up a bit later than average. But each to their own, I know people whose DC do 6:00 to 18:00 and that suits them.

andtheycalleditbunnylove · 19/01/2013 21:45

what is it to do with you? and who says you're right? my baby went to bed when i did because she didn't want to be alone. her baby wants supper, a shower and bed between seven and eight. do it to suit the baby.

CatsRule · 19/01/2013 22:03

My 10 month old is up later than that because we have a better chance of a solid sleep the later he goes down. This works for us, it may not for others, and it may change as he gets older to suit his/our needs. Every child is different, what works for one might not for another.

Yabu judging them on their bedtime routine. Yanbu to complain to them about any noise that disturbs your peace regularly.

atacareercrossroads · 19/01/2013 22:07

I don't understand, has a massive part of the op been missed off? What's the issue?

redskyatnight · 19/01/2013 22:08

My friend's 2 year old goes to bed when she does - normally around 11pm. And then gets up at around 9-10am. Friend enjoys having more time with her DD and works evening/weekends so enjoys the lie in.

I'd be annoyed about the noise but don't think you can make a judgement on bedtimes.

Downandoutnumbered · 20/01/2013 22:07

Some children just don't need as much sleep as the books say. Our DS is normally awake till 9, because as things are he wants to get up at 6.30 and if he goes to bed earlier he gets up earlier. We find it easier to cope with less adult time in the evenings than with a 5.30 wake-up call. I tortured myself for ages because I thought he wasn't getting enough sleep and it would affect his development, but it's just the way he is. He's 2.5.
