in thinking that "Are you ok?!" or "oooooooh I bet that hurt" is a fucking stupid thing to say?

When someone has clearly just REALLY fucking hurt themselves?

Just stubbed my toe, which as we all know hurts more than having babies albeit briefly, and was hopping around swearing when DD (15) said "oooh I bet that hurt, are you ok?"

I didnt swear at her (as I would if her father had said it!) just rolled my eyes and said "REALLY?!" . To be fair she did smirk and say sorry!

Why is it human nature to say such a blatantly stupid thing?! Man falls down 2 flights of stairs and every limb he has is bending the wrong way. "oh, are you alright?" Take a wild guess, genius!

AIBU?

PS, I make a point of trying not to say this, but it does sometimes slip out!

We are a piss taking type of family so now she is threatening me with ringing my mum to take me to A&E, because thats what I did the last time she stubbed hers (she says, I dont remember it!) :o

Bogeyface · 18/01/2013 20:57

If someone asked me what I wanted I think I would say "Vodka! Then fuck off" :o

oh, yabu

Bogeyface · 18/01/2013 20:59

She is very sarcastic and dry, a lot fun and being all faux concerned just to annoy me! Whenever her brother (eldest DS is ill) he gets man-flu and he knows better now than to tell her as she goes all Florence Nightingale on him!

Your OP wasn't full of fun! You sounded p'ed off.

HeadfirstForHalos · 18/01/2013 21:02

Some people take threads too seriously Grin

It annoys me when people say are you okay- no I'm bloody not!

But then if they don't ask they're bastards and don't care Grin

I am unreasonable!

Bogeyface · 18/01/2013 21:05

I didnt want to use too many !!!!!! as more than 4 puts on in the "underpants on the head" category. It was meant to be light hearted but clearly I didnt do it properly.

Castigated, I shall go and allow my sarcastic DD to "nurse" my toe by pretending to stamp on it everytime she walks near me :)

It's like ( but not nearly as bad of course) responding to ...

' I just heard that Herbert died this week'

With

'You're kidding?'

I mean, really ? Oh yes i was kidding about someone dying.. Hmm

Foggles · 18/01/2013 21:12

Was it your little toe?

Mine went like a cooked chipolata when I stubbed it. Couldn't get my shoes on for days.

Foggles · 18/01/2013 21:13

Well, obviously I could get ONE shoe on but that wasn't much use.

Bogeyface · 18/01/2013 21:16

That sounds like a break foggles get it checked out if you stub it and it does that again.

Fenton my mum was asked "did you know that John is going in for an op? Its ever so serious, he might die!!!!" said by a pensioner at her church, with if not glee then.......shocked excitement at the gossip.

She certainly did know as "John" is my dad!

Absolutely not sniggering, not at all.

Oh I bet that hurt....

There really should be a smirking emoticon!

As opposed to what?! Of course YABU! However, my DP instinctively says "sorry"if she sees anyone hurt themselves (she tells me that is an African thing?) and for some reason I used to find that very annoying!

Foggles · 18/01/2013 21:23

Re: Pensioners & Gossip.

My local hairdresser (let's call her Sharon) had a nasty fall and broke her finger. She couldn't work for weeks.

The gossip developed thus....

  1. have you heard about Sharon? she's broke her finger poor love
  2. have you heard about Sharon? she's in hospital, broke her arm, poor love
  3. have you heard about Sharon? SHE's DEAD !!

True Story.

I was on my way into work when an elderly man slipped and fell flat on his back. I rushed forward and helped him up. I said without thinking "Are you ok?" and the cunt tore into me for asking him a stupid question. I nearly burst into tears. What a nasty way to treat someone who is concerned and trying to help. I would say I'll walk past or ignore someone having an accident next time but that's not in my nature. I wouldn't dream of being annoyed or snippy with someone helping or showing concern. Why anyone would be that way fucking astounds me. YABVU. Hmm
