to suspend the diet and opt for comfort food on this snowy day.

Brrrrrr.

Today was supposed to be a good weightwatchers day.

Stroll to school with the kids. Stroll to the swimming baths, have an hours swim. Stoll home and fit in some housework and collect a parcel.

Instead the kids were off school, swimming was only something I could do if the kids were in school as it was adults only (and I wasn't braving it anyway!)

Instead of having a sandwich for lunch and leftover lasagne for dinner, we've all enjoyed the leftovers for both meals, interspered with a hot chocolate or two.

And DH just went shopping and I buckled and asked him to bring back some comfort food pudding. Woodland strudel baking as I type.

I shall have used all my weekly points (and then some) and done no exercise. Although if I can pack DH off out of the way I can either do some Zumba or get the exercise bike out.

YANBU

I had cheesey chips from the chippy for lunch

RedHelenB · 18/01/2013 19:14

YANBU!!!

carabos · 18/01/2013 19:16

We've had bangers, mash and beans followed by chocolate mini rolls (plural) Grin. I can't remember the last time we ate such a load of crap a meal like that.

iklboo · 18/01/2013 19:16

A proper doctor on The One Show has just said we should all eat fatty food to keep warm!

curiouscat · 18/01/2013 19:18

YANBU. I had veg stew diet supper while DH and kids ordered takeaway curry. Feeling very left out now and wish I'd joined them. Also failed to cycle to work as planned due to snow. Dieting is impossible when your private time is invaded. Good luck!

Lambzig · 18/01/2013 19:19

I have totally done the same, shepherds pie for tea.

HecateWhoopass · 18/01/2013 19:28

I know what you mean. I've done stew and dumplings twice this week!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 18/01/2013 19:30

I am following slimming world and have totally legitimate meatballs in a tasty sauce with noodles yumm

iklboo · 18/01/2013 19:32

Ooh. I'm doing slimming world. We had the egg fried rice recipe with turkey & ham. Bloody lovely it was.

wriggletto · 18/01/2013 19:42

I made a chocolate cake this afternoon. I couldn't stop myself, it just felt like the right thing to do. Blush

WorraLiberty · 18/01/2013 19:45

How does breaking your diet help to 'comfort' you? (genuine question btw)

And what 'comfort' do you need apart from the central heating a bit higher/duvet on the couch?

Wolfiefan · 18/01/2013 19:46

I'm cold! I want toast and I wish I'd had cheesy chips for tea!

BornToFolk · 18/01/2013 19:47

We had sausage and mash for dinner, followed by mince pies and custard. Proper comfort food!

thegreylady · 18/01/2013 19:47

YANBU I do WW too and was determined to have a good week. I had treacle pud for dessert tonight [ blush]

catgirl1976 · 18/01/2013 19:47

They were amazing :)

I want them again now :)

bigbadbarry · 18/01/2013 19:48

I was going to run for half an hour then go to body balance class while the children were out and eat lovely home made carrot soup for lunch, DH here all day so he ate the soup (!), didn't want to drive to the gym in case I got stuck.

bigbadbarry · 18/01/2013 19:49

And yes, proper hot chocolate all round after school

DoItToJulia · 18/01/2013 19:50

Baking mania struck here. Rosemary focaccia, tea cakes, millionaires shortbread....

Sausage, beans and mash here too. Unfortunately DH and I have to go out though and snow not bad enough here to raincheck.

2kidsintow · 18/01/2013 19:56

Mmmf mmmm mffm

Grin

I've not completely broken the diet, if I count the weekly points that you have for those days you don't strictly stick to your daily allowance. (Hurrah for WW!) But it just hasn't been the 'good' day I'd planned for.

It is indeed a genuine question. If I had the answer, I'd be a size 8.
Mostly it is because I'd planned to eat colder foods... e.g. sweet treat was going to be a bowl of chopped melon, and on a cold day I just didn't fancy eating cold food, so have swapped it for warm food.

I wonder if there is a biological imperative to crave higher calorie food when you are cold? Makes sense if there is.

Tomorrow will be back to eating my daily points (and only my daily points after today) I'm just enjoying not worrying about it for a day after being on my diet for a while.

I absolutely cannot stop eating at the moment! The only this that satisfies is adding fat to things...coconut oil in my porridge, buttery scrambled eggs....I am heading for blubberville...

EuroShagmore · 18/01/2013 20:22

YANBU but your weightloss will be slower...

WorraLiberty · 18/01/2013 20:25

Possibly but I think a lot of it is to do with just wanting to grab the first 'excuse' that comes along? Grin

My mate gave up smoking on new year's day and so far she's smoked because...

She argued with her DH and was stressed

She watched a documentary that upset her

She went out with her friends for a night and one of them smoked...she didn't want to leave her on her own.

I don't know if she'll ever give up but I suspect if she started a thread saying, "AIBU to smoke again because it's snowing and I need comfort", she would get a very different reply to what you've mostly had.

Last year I started following a lower carb diet, oddly I started it as the weather improved and the "need" for carby hot meals vanished. Most successful ive ever been at losing weight. This winter despite being pg I've not gorged on sugary rubbish, but ive loved my stews and jacket spuds, my baked rice puddings, hot crumbles and custard.

I know we start new years resolutions ans join diet but I think its a real shame we dont just accept winter is a time we need for energy not less. What we can do is eat smaller portions, slower release energy rather than cakes and chocolates and
