My ds (3) just told my 100 year old neighbour "If you want to have a healthy poo you need to drink lots of water" Cringe! Thankyou cbeebies!Shock

Dr bloody Ranj!

DS (also 3) loves that show, but it makes me cringe.

NeedlesCuties · 16/01/2013 17:42

Sorry, forgot to say

YANBU.

thebitchdoctor · 16/01/2013 17:44

YABU. Although I think Dr Ranj is an idiot, nowt wrong with kids knowing how the body works!

NewYearNewNagoo · 16/01/2013 17:44

YABU what's wrong with it?

It teaches them about healthy eating, and tells them what will happen to their bodies if they don't eat enough fruit and veg and don't drink enough.

lovesmileandlaugh · 16/01/2013 17:48

My DD suffered from chronic constipation, partly because she wouldn't drink! I would have been delighted if Cbeebies had told her this! It is healthy living advice, like eating fruit and veg and taking exercise!

trikken · 16/01/2013 17:49

having had a constipated toddler, id have to say its a good thing.

insancerre · 16/01/2013 17:51

yabu
if they can understnad it then there is nothing wrong with learning how their body works

IRCL · 16/01/2013 17:51

YABU. I think anything that teaches our children about the human body is a good thing. It also helped when DD had constipation she was a bit apprehensive about the doc but since this show she loves doctors.

YANBU about the cringey aspect of it though.

TheHamish · 16/01/2013 17:52

My DD (4) was watching it and I thought it was a bit much, but then she asked me for a glass of water, downed it and asked me for another. She NEVER asks for water. So I recorded it and plan to play it regularly when she "struggles"!

Ragwort · 16/01/2013 17:53

YABU - it is a really important life lesson to learn to drink enough fluids and eat fruit/veg/fibre etc Smile. Too much coyness about these sorts of subjects ......... which leads to all sorts of issues in later life.

YourHandInMyHand · 16/01/2013 17:56

YABU.

My DS has autism and despite being 8 he still loves Cbeebies. He had problems with years with toilet training, and only cracked it last summer. He watched the programme you are talking about last week and as it was on CBeebies he watched it transfixed and the info went in. May have solved a lot of my problems if he'd seen it years ago!

It's a very accessible way to help kids understand their bodies and health needs, I think it's a fab idea.

fuzzypicklehead · 16/01/2013 18:08

I don't know, I think it can be a pretty common problem in potty training kids. My eldest had a long stage of "holding it" and we had to download the "Pooland" book and have quite a few poo conversations before she was pooing happily again.

Sirzy · 16/01/2013 18:36

As annoying as the show is the idea is very good really. DS (3) has asthma and enjoyed today's episode because he was just like him.

and at least it didn't make asthma sound fun like a previous episode did croup

Littlefish · 16/01/2013 18:41

I think it's a really good thing. I work in a nursery and there are several children with constipation/holding in problems. We regularly talk about the need to drink water and eat fruit and vegetables.

wigglesrock · 16/01/2013 18:49

Oh God, Dr Ranj is my guilty crush Blush I watched a show on CBBC with dd1 at the weekend - I think its Operation Ouch where they examined each others poo (the Drs), Gillian McKeith has nothing on those boys. Dd1 and dd1 both have eaten exceptionally healthy dinners this week Grin

Picturesinthefirelight · 16/01/2013 18:51

Not seen the show but having known loads if pre schoolers with constipation issues/withholding I think it's a great idea.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 16/01/2013 18:56

Todays was asthma?
DS1 hates his inhaler...

SneakyNuts · 16/01/2013 19:00

wiggles same here! Although he looks identical to my ex Blush

OP, YABU. It's only poo.

CloudsAndTrees · 16/01/2013 19:13

Yabu. My dc are passed the Cbeebies stage but I wouldn't mind that at all. Toddlers love poo, it's the best time to teach them to drink lots of water.

RamblingRosa · 16/01/2013 19:22

I have a big crush on Dr Ranj. Apparently he is actually a real doctor...if only he were my doctor. Sigh.

Anyway, I loved that episode. DD has always suffered from constipation and, although it didn't teach her she didn't already know, she somehow took it a bit more seriously because the dreamy Dr Ranj was saying it :)

Why would you not want pre-schoolers to know about bodily functions? Surely it's all good general knowledge, even if it's not about a problem that is relevant to them right now or if it leads to the odd cringey moment?

Sirzy · 16/01/2013 19:26

Beyond - right at the end he showed him how to use an inhaler and spacer. Only the one with a mouthpiece not a mask though which I thought was strange considering its aimed at young children who generally use a mask.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 16/01/2013 19:53

Ta :) we've watched it now, think it may be daily viewing til he gets used to it

Allinonebucket · 16/01/2013 20:18

They must have thought about which conditions small children are likely to suffer from, and from replies here constitution seems quite a common one, so YABU I would say!

bedmonster · 16/01/2013 20:56

I knew this thread would be about this programme, dsis and I fell about laughing when we saw it! The kids looked at us like this Hmm

ArtsMumma · 16/01/2013 21:00

I think it's great and knowing that Dr Ranj is a real doctor has made my day, I'm off to invent mysterious symptoms for him to... diagnose....
