to wonder where my redheaded blue-eyed baby came from?

So, we have just had a gorgeous little DD. We are very happy, she is lovely. Her brothers love her and everything's great. We were just a bit shocked by what she looks like...

My DH is Mediterranean, so very swarthy and dark. Our DS's look just like him. I am pale with light blonde hair and green eyes. Our DSs have dark hair and eyes like DH.

However, DD has bright ginger hair and blue eyes! How did this happen? I didn't think it was possible, genetically speaking? I feel that people are a bit and wondering if I had an affair (I didn't). Has anybody heard of this before? I just want to have an answer ready for the next time somebody asks me. Thanks.

My next door neighbour is black . Her brother has bright blue eyes and very dark skin. He is absolutely gorgeous.

I wonder if Prince Charles thinks the same thing at times...

Dh and I are both dark skinned and hair and my dc were always born with sandy skin and dark or gold hair.
Dd2 dc5 was born two years ago and is bright red hair with brown eyes. I had a wtf? Moment when I saw her and wondered who she was.

this has happened to me!i have dark brown hair an brown eyes an my partner has mousy brown hair an brown eyes our dd now 3 was born with ginger hair an blue eyes which she still has.i does come across weird an my partner does joke about how he musnt be her dad but he is!!

Genes are nuts. Me - dark brown hair and eyes, H - green eyes, dark blond mousey hair.

DC1 is blond and bright blue eyed, Dc2 has dark eyes and hair, DC3 - red hair and grey eyes.

People must think I have been busy with a whole variety of milkmen!

I have dark hair, DH mid brown hair. DS 1 and 3 are both fair-ish (will prob darken up like DH did, he was fair as a child.) However DS 2 is firey red haired (started as strawberry blond, but now definitely red !)
When we are out, it's always 'oh what lovely red hair ! where did it come from ?' (looking at me pointedly as if to say you were shagging the milkman weren't you )
My grandmother, aunty and cousin (aunty's son) were all red, so yeah it does move throughout generations.
