about PILs reading application forms after submission

DH has spent the last week or two working on an application form for a new job - one of those time consuming forms with lots of questions asking for examples of teamworking, leadership, etc.

Yesterday, he decided he was happy with the application form and submitted it. So it's now impossible for him to change anything on the form.

Today, he has e-mailed his parents a copy of his completed application form for them to read through it Confused

At best, this is utterly pointless, and at worst, they'll spot an error or ommission, and DH will spend the next few weeks fretting himself silly about it until it's clear whether he's made it to the next stage or not.

AIBU to think that if DH really wanted his parents - or anyone esle - to read his form, then he should have given them a copy before he submitted the form to the prospective employer?

How old is he? I don't think I've ever shown my parents my application forms, although my mum did help me type my first CV but that's because she could type. It makes him sound very young and unconfident and not that good at leadership. I could understand it if one parent in particular worked in his field, but agree that then it would be best to show them it before sending it. It sounds rather odd. As you're married I presume he's not just left home and entered the big bad world.

I always show mine to my dad and my auntie, both have extensive experience of recruitment and give really valuable advice, I don't think it's at all odd. I might show them an application after submission if I wanted help preparing for interview, I wouldn't expect them to jump to it at short notice.

2rebecca - He's 37. And has done application forms before.

Amanda - it's the timing that I'm finding odd more than anything. He's shown it to them too late for them to give advice on the form itself, and it's too early to know whether he'll be shortlisted for interview. It's still a week before the closing date for the application.

I was just thinking that by the time you know you have an interview you don't necessarily have that much time to prepare. Why don't you just ask him why he did it if you're that curious? Grin

It is very bizarre behaviour. Are they particularly qualified to comment?

I don't think they're particularly qualified to comment.

DH said that he thought that they would be interested in reading it.
