Just saw Jamie on tv. He was fondling the meatballs, caressing the tomatoes and generally getting very personal with the food.

not sure he washed his hands either

AIBU to find it gross when the cook touches the food a lot. And even more gross when they double dip while tasting their concoction?

Exactly, Shatners.

Can you imagine how long it would all take if they had to factor in hand-washing/Zoflora-ing?!

TameGaloot · 14/01/2013 16:17

Half an hour slot
Do they show several recipes each time and people make the assumption that everything has been wiped down each time and the chef has washed their hands or do they waste ten minutes each time showing it
No brainer

I think I have seen Jaimie touching raw meatballs and then chopping unwashed parsley/basil without cleaning his hands.

I have also seen minging cooking habits in CDWM.

Do youngsters who want to budding chefs/dinner hosts ever learn about hygiene? Or do they think fondling food with dirty paws is normal?

I am not worried about health and germs. More about the visual and psychological unappealingness of it all.

And yes, I think they should show handwashing, cleaning surfaces etc. as part of the show. They don't have to show in full slow motion, but can show a bit of the cleaning prep and then cut to the next section.

It is all part of the cooking experience. And I would be interested in how they wash their cutting boards (boiling water from the kettle or soap/warm water...) for example.

Much more interesting than disturbing food fondling by an unkempt chef (and all the men except Gordon seem to be in need of a good scrub)

I remember some celeb on Something for the Weekend trying to turn the tap on and wash their hands during a cookery slot. It was a pretend tap. Confused

James Martin actually made one of his guest chefs go wash his hands on the middle of Saturday Kitchen once.

I agree about open salad bars in supermarkets, I once saw a woman take one of the plastic forks and work her way around the salad bar eating a bit of each. Shock

I have been to a recording of a TV cook show, what a lot of you are not taking into consideration is the cuts in filming and editing. There were many and it was a show that the viewers thought was unedited and constantly filmed from beginning to end. So really ass far as cook shows go you cannot judge.

How many of you actually cover your hair and wash your hands every time after touching everything you use in the kitchen?

Yes hygiene is important but that in itself can be taken to the extreme causing more allergies etc because our bodies cannot build a strong immune system....

I don't mind people touching food... But jamie does take it too far ... Its a bit odd :)

Although it pee's me off when he starts getting handfuls of herbs and chucking them around the room... Hardly any ends up on the food Grin
