In thinking this school policy is unsafe?

And that the new headteacher is an utter arse out of his mind?

New Headteacher has decided to curb a litter problem in my DD's secondary school ALL food and drinks must be consumed within the cafeteria during breaks.

Sounds ok right?

Apart from the fact that there is 800+ pupils and only seating for 150-200 children at any one time?

Lunch break is 40 minutes.

IABU in thinking this is some kind of health and safety/fire risk? Should I contact someone about this?

I also think this is a recipe for disaster. We are supposed to be teaching our children healthy attitudes towards food but all this is causing is kids to miss lunch due to the crush, pick 'quick' things or inhale their food at warp speed whilst being pushed and shoved standing in the corner.

How is that healthy?

And don't even get me started on the no coat/hat/scarf on campus rule......

Yes I know its snowing in various parts of the country. The weather hasn't really changed over the years. My eldest children had the same rule in regards to coats etc.. Come to think of it, so did my school. Even doing cross country in the snow in gym shorts lol.

Our school has over 700 and seating for about 200, they stagger the lunches and what annoys me, the kids get about 20 minutes to eat, clear up and get out. This includes time in line waiting for the food. So Dd takes a packed lunch so she actually gets to eat something. I've been in the dining hall and seen kids have to dump their whole tray of food away as there time was up, they grab and hide the milk box and stuff some fruit in their pockets and go out to play.

"He instigated an investigation but the issue was never disclosed to the rest of the governors and some kind of injunction was put into place to stop the reason being disclosed."

It's Ryan Giggs.

I would query his teaching credentials.

Sounds like our place. 1000 pupils, seating for 200. 30 minute lunch break.

I don't think he has any teaching credentials - he has a business background from what I can gather. Last year he consulted as a business expert when my DD took part in an entrepreneur contest. This was whilst he was on 'leave' from his last school it appears. So I think they had him lined up for this role to be honest.

Apparently in the world of business academy education it's all about who you know.

I don't see how they can get away with this lunchtime given the current government policies on healthy eating etc. It's hardly setting them up good eating habits is it?

Especially at a time when these kids are forming relationships with food.

It doesn't sound good at all. Nor do his other methods or his background! Any chance of moving schools.?

I think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

The school I worked at had a rule that all food was to be consumed within the dining hall. There were lots of reasons for this: 1. children litter - our students were warned time and time again if they didn't change their ways it would happen. The Yr11s lost their separate dining area due to litter. 2. The playing fields were left in a terrible state. 3. The school also had a seagull problem despite being quite inland - the gulls would circle the school at break and lunch times. Several students were dive bombed by the menaces.

Also, kids being kids will find a way round the rules. You don't say how old your child is, but my yr8 DS and yr 10 DS find ways and means around the rules. Oh - we don't have staggered lunches either. They get 40 minutes to eat.

This is ludicrous, a head like this will destroy staff morale and the school will very quickly go down the toilet because of it. I would look at how many vacancies they have come May half term.
