Young Voices - national singing event includes lyrics from Tommy - Pinball Wizard

Young Voices is a child-focused organisation involving 1000s of children performing at events throughout the uk in stadiums. My 7 year old is singing and it includes the following lyrics in one section.

I am sickened that young children are expected to perform a song about peodos, sadism, prostitution and abuse.

What do you think? Whilst my young daughter doesn't understand the lyrics I feel sick when she sings about his supple wrist.

For a pro child group this is in poor taste....or is it just me being intellectual about it - most people in the peak district have no idea about what Tommy is nor the inference....

By ignoring this are we endorsing this blatant behaviour - it's not good...

Ever since I was a young boy I?ve played the silver
ball
From Soho down to Brighton I must have played
them all,
But I ain?t seen nothing like him in any amusement
hall
That deaf dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean
Pinball!
He stands like a statue, Becomes part of the
machine,
Feeling all the bumpers, Always playing clean,
Plays by intuition the digit counters fall,
That deaf dumb and blind kid, Sure plays a mean
Pinball!
He?s a pinball wizard there has to be a twist,
A pinball wizard?s got such a supple wrist,
How do you think he does it? What makes him so
good?

Those at my DD2 state school sat at the front.

Although I know what you mean about someone making money out of it, it was amazing seeing her and her friends singing their hearts out. She loved it and won't forget the experience.

My kids attended this and they loved it. I noticed that any dodgy parts of songs had been changed to make them cleaner. I really can't see anything in those lyrics - it's about a boy playing a pin ball machine isn't it? If not I'm lost.

It's always cost us nothing by the way - only the bus fare there. Can wear a white t shirt too and not buy one

My 11yo dd performed at the O2 last night. We were blown away by the whole experience. It was so atmospheric. The african children's choir was our highlight

.
I am really surprised by some of the cynicism about the whole thing.

And by the way, I am often disapproving of adult lyrics. I guess that I was just so impressed by it all that I didn't over think the lyrics. Partly, I guess because i didnt see them written down. OP, with ref to the Tommy song, my dd thought it was called 'Pimple wizard' lol
