Ok, my very first AIBU thread

I work full time, usually 7 days in a row and shifts, so days, lates and nights. DH works full time, but one week of Mon-Fri early shift and one week late shift, he some times works a Sat morn.

We have three DC, one is up and away from home married, two live at home DD16 and DS14.

I usually do the ironing, it mounts up to a massive pile and I try to get through it. I iron my clothes and the children, but am I BU to ignore DH clothes and tell him to do his own.

And I know the children could do there's, but at this stage im not to trusting of child v iron.

I had to iron when I was a kid, starting at age 8 or 9. I had an ironing board, so did my sister, three years older, and Mom probably was using the mangle. I started with handkerchiefs and pillow cases. My brother was in between us in age and he did not have to iron. But this was sixty years ago.

No one even uses handkerchiefs anymore. I do not iron anymore, nothing needs it.

My Mom used to "dampen" (sprinkle with water) the clothes, then roll them up and put in bushel basket lined with oilcloth. Covered with towel, all ready for ironing.

There is nothing special about ironing.

It is a household chore like any other - to be divided up according to skill, hatred of the task, and how much other housework you do just like all the other household chores.

YABU to think that your 16 year old is not safe to iron - the 14 year old should be safe to iron (and if they aren't that is the fault of the parents, UTGSN)

We kind of divide everything else and he is millions better than he was which was me doing everything and working DH sat on his lazy arse, because it was his day off

I just stopped doing everything and he had to start helping Grin.

I shall iron No More unless its my stuff

OP, YABU - I don't do any ironing, with the exception of my work uniforms. There is no need to iron once you shake the clothes out after washing them then put them on the line or in the dryer. If your DC or DH is not happy with how their clothes they can iron it themselves.
