My DP whilst playing Scrabble with my youngest DS (7) has been making words such as 'bint'; 'harpie' and 'sag - whch apparently applies to all women over the age of 40... its TIC but what messages is he sending to DS2 (10) and DS 3 (7)

am beginning to lose my sense of humour?

AViewfromtheFridge · 13/01/2013 14:44

Well, he's spelt harpy wrong for a start.

WorraLiberty · 13/01/2013 14:46

He might have spelt 'sag' wrong too! Grin

catgirl1976 · 13/01/2013 14:47

Who said they apply to women over 40?

If your DP said that with a snigger or something then YANBU but if those were just the best words he could make with the tiles he had then YABU

CrazyChristmasLady · 13/01/2013 14:47

sag?

YANBU. Does he really teach his children these words? Confused

wem · 13/01/2013 14:48

So what have you said to him about it?

catgirl1976 · 13/01/2013 14:48

He's spelt harpie just fine

The spelling he's used is acceptable

TheFallenNinja · 13/01/2013 14:48

No, but a quick review of his music/ tv choices should reveal the source of this.

StraightTalkinSheila · 13/01/2013 14:48

YANBU. He's being a total arsewipe. You could spell "premature" or "tiny cock" just to get your own back, or you could slap him upside his head. Choice is yours.

catgirl1976 · 13/01/2013 14:49

ooh i take thhat back

it's a commonly used spelling but not acceptable in scrabble

FrustratedSycamoreIsNesting · 13/01/2013 14:49

Bit is a welsh word, perhaps you could teach yours DCs the correct meanings and spellings

5madthings · 13/01/2013 14:50

Regardless of spelling those words arent appropriate with children.

Please tell me sag isnt a misspelling if slag?!!

maddening · 13/01/2013 14:50

Has he completely lost his senses how utterly childish - and wrong in front of his children - what a silly old git he is :)

lemonstartree · 13/01/2013 14:50

he keeps saying things like Harpies are winged beasts form the underworld, like women who winge and bicker and moan all the time...

OP posts:
maddening · 13/01/2013 14:50

As in he is being vu :)

catgirl1976 · 13/01/2013 14:51

Harpy is acceptable to children - just not his meaning

Ditto slag or sag

Bints out of order though

HappyNewHissy · 13/01/2013 14:54

Looks like you need a better quality P... one that has something approaching a decent vocabulary, ideally can actually SPELL what he writes, AND that supports your education of your boys.

I'd have a word with my boyf if he used misogynistic language like this around my son.

YANBU. I'd be ending the game tbh.

wem · 13/01/2013 14:55

Have you told him to stop and explained why? Or are you just rolling your eyes and telling MN how awful he is for teaching your sons to talk about women like that?

StraightTalkinSheila · 13/01/2013 14:55

I think I have a girl-crush on HappyNewHissy.

StraightTalkinSheila · 13/01/2013 14:56

And Wem.

catgirl1976 · 13/01/2013 14:56

His spelling is fine but not for scrabble

His attitude is not fine

lemonstartree · 13/01/2013 15:02

I have told him I find this unacceptable. He says its a joke and of course the boys find it hilarious....

tbh he doesn't Behave in a misogynistic way, but I totally disagree with this kind of 'joke'....

OP posts:
StraightTalkinSheila · 13/01/2013 15:03

It's no joke.

HappyNewHissy · 13/01/2013 15:06

StraightTalkinSheila Wink

Grin
CSIJanner · 13/01/2013 15:20

Devils advocate could argue that you could always join in and place twit, sissy or douche? But moral high ground and ending the game is probably a better example for your DC's

corlan · 13/01/2013 15:20

Your DP sounds incredibly immature. God Forbid your son ever repeats any of these words in front of an adult, especially at school - it will definitely raise eyebrows and colour people's perception of your child and your family.
