Would I be U to take my 8yr old DD to see Les Mis at the cinema?

She badly wants to go but i am not sure if it age appropriate as it is a 12A. What do you think?

I don't really think its suitable, I saw it the other night (it was amazing) and there is a bit in it where you see Santa fucking a prostitute.

Along with Gavroche being killed and Enjoras and the bit where Fantine is pretty much raped... I wouldn't take an 8 year old to see it.

I saw it yesterday and I would say it's a 12 for a reason, some of the scenes are quite distressing. I wouldn't take her.

Yes yabu. It's 3 hours long, no break. The two fidgety "daddy what's happening now children on the row in front of me last night and them having to be taken out for the loo, rustling sweets etc just as bring him home was starting really spoiled it for me.

My 10 yaer old has asked if she can come with me to see it. Think I will say no afetr reading this, thanks.

After seeing it we are borderline for our 11 year old seeing it but want to make her wait til she is a bit older.

oh my goodness thank you for letting me know as I already had reservations about it, plus I have never seen the whole thing neither has she just parts on you tube. She learnt some of the songs at school and wanted to go.

Have you read tge book and seen the play? It's not a children's film.

To be fair she has never seen twelve, so much for me thinking it was just a bit of singing and dancing

I took my 8 and 11 year old to see the stage show and had no problem with that. There is a tiny bit if swearing "shit & bastard" but the stage show is not as graphic.

No I have not unfortunately read the play etc. I only heard of it as they did some songs in her choir at school then we watched parts of the musical on youtube. She loves musicals but I cant say I know much about this one

Why don't you buy/hire the 25th anniversary DVD for her instead. The 10th anniversary is good too but performed concert style- the 25th is semi staged.

Can I just ask, does anyone know if it is as sad as the musical? I couldn't stop crying when I saw it on the West End.

Sadder if anything. The light relief from the thenardiers isn't as prominent and its all so close up.

Fabric he's death & javerts reaction to it - can't say more as it would spoil it- is very poignant.

The prostitution scene near the beginning is really graphic and I think this would make it unsuitable. Also Gavroche being shot is pretty hard-hitting. I don't really understand why it is a 12A and not just a 12. If you get the chance to take her to the stage show, I would say that would be more suitable.

I saw it with an all adult audience and there was quite a lot of people having to leave to go to the loo there as well.

Very sad, especially at the end. Heard a fair few sniffles and saw hankies coming out.

I took 11yr old DD, but might not have if I'd known how graphic it would be. She was fine with it though, really enjoyed it.

I took DS (10 almost 11). He was a little awkward during Fantine's more graphic part and lovely ladies. He's a mature lad and for him the film was very much a sum of its parts. He came away buzzing from the whole experience.

8 years old? No. I wouldnt. Agree with Pictures. The 25th Anniversary DVD would be great for her. Has more of a stage show feel to it.

To be fair done adults did go. But this family were in and out at least 5 tines.

Definitely even sadder than the stage show. You can see the emotion and pain more and the acting is brilliant. I blubbed all the way through it.
