To think that children in year one and year two did not have sex education ten years ago?

Someone I know is adamant that back around 2000/2001 children in year one and two had sex education. Am I being unreasonable to think they are talking bollocks?

I was in year 6 in 2000...had sex ed then, never before.

Seems a bit unnecessary at 6/7 years old?

If parents are waiting for the schools to talk about penis in vagina sex education at yrs 5/6 or yrs 9/10, then I'd venture to say they've already failed their children by not discussing it earlier. My yr 2 6yo has been asking very perceptive questions for a while now and has worked out by himself that the man somehow 'puts his willy inside the lady and wee's the seed out!', because he's known for a couple of years that men have their 'seeds' in their testicles. So I've gently corrected him on some of the language and mechanics without traumatising him, and he's perfectly happy with the explanations, even at his age. It's just not something to get hung up about, embarrassed as we may be, we just have to squash that embarrassment and get on with it.
