To just take a fruit salad?

We've been invites to a friends for a late lunch tomorrow with another couple. I offered to bring a pudding as they've a young toddler I know she doesn't have much time.

However, I'm 37 and a half wks pregnant and knackered. I can't be bothered to make something fancy and would feel a bit rude rocking up with a waitrose pud. I do a good line in fruit salads and merengues - aibu just to go with that?

I'd take the waitrose pudd. You are heavily pg.

BabsAndTheRu · 12/01/2013 08:21

That sounds like a really nice pudding, YADNBU. The price of fruit these days means its actually quite a luxurious pudding.

RuleBritannia · 12/01/2013 08:21

Go with what you feel able to provide. No one would sneer at a Waitrose or M&S pudding!

malteserzz · 12/01/2013 08:23

That sounds lovely or just take a ready made one can't see anyone minding at all

Sirzy · 12/01/2013 08:23

Take a waitrose pudding. Make your life easier

weevilswobble · 12/01/2013 08:24

Why dont you just text her and say I'm gonna do a fruit salad will that suit? Otherwise i think it sounds perfect, are you going to take some cream too? Grin

TotallyEggFlipped · 12/01/2013 08:25

I'd love it if you brought a fruit salad as pudding to my place! I don't see any problem with shop bought desserts either, pregnant or not. Why would anyone mind?

PurplePidjin · 12/01/2013 08:36

Peeling and chopping fruit is proper work!

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/10600/triple-ginger-cheesecake is easy, i use lemon zest/juice instead of ginger in the topping and skip the rhubarb

CloudsAndTrees · 12/01/2013 08:39

Do the fruit salad and take a Waitrose pud. Don't forget the cream!

Icelollycraving · 12/01/2013 08:40

Can you do a pavlova? Not really any more work than a fruit salad.

freerangelady · 12/01/2013 08:50

Yay! Thanks for the positive responses! Will go with fruit salad; merengue and cream.

Weirdly, I can make great merengues but ask me to make a big merengue I.e a pavlova and it never works! Don't know why, it's really frustrating!

Fruit salad, meringues and cream is my idea of a fantastic pudding.

adelle283498 · 12/01/2013 08:55

I'd be grateful for a guest to bring aything tbf :D

halcyondays · 12/01/2013 10:44

Why would it be rude to bring a Waitrose pudding? Or any other pudding, come to that?

adelle283498 · 12/01/2013 11:47

One of my sisters bakes and makes really nice homemade things and one buys M&S cheesecakes but none of us mind, its bringing something that counts :)

littleladyindoors · 12/01/2013 12:24

fruit salad sounds nice, and toddler friendly too so I bet that will go down really well.
waitrose sounds equally good, Id be happy with that- can you tell youd be lucky to get asda round here Grin

Proudnscary · 12/01/2013 12:28

Do people really worry about things like this?! Buy the pud fgs!

Good luck with your baby

ISingSoprano · 12/01/2013 12:30

Fruit salad and home made meringues is a great pudding for Sunday lunch. If you were my friend I would be very happy with that Grin

abbierhodes · 12/01/2013 13:37

What proudnscary said. When one of my friends offers to 'sort pudding' I generally expect something shop bought. Especially for a lunchtime with kids! I'd maybe take a nice cheesecake for the grown-ups and some french fancies for the kids. If anyone moans about that you send 'em to me and I'll tell what ungrateful gobshites they are!

NB- I'm sure your friends are not ungrateful gobshites, OP Grin

I don't know. Fruit salad is very summery to me. I'd make or take a warming dessert like a pie or crumble with custard. But that's just probably me.
