I'm lying in a hospital bed, wide awake, all I can hear are nurses walking about and the woman in the next bed snoring loudly. I'm thinking a bid for freedom or hiding under the bed for a bit. I've eaten all my sweets and now I'm starving.

Suggestions from DH (who had a somewhat protracted stay in hospital some years ago with serious head injuries):

Walk around naked but with a towel slung casually over one shoulder. You are looking for a 'nice' shower.

Seat yourself at the nurses' station and announce your intention to 'organise' their system.

Tell anyone that will listen that you are a) a professional golf player or b) a famous celebrity to whom you bear no resemblance.

Let yourself into the staff loos. If challenged, inform them that you ARE staff.

Pinch foodstuffs from other people in your ward.

Have fun Grin

Shodan I'm here for a while so I shall be carrying out all of the above over the next few days. If I end up on the 6th floor I'm blaming you lot.

Thanks :)

Go to Tesco's. My friend on the antenatal ward got her slippers confiscated because she wouldn't rest and kept escaping to Tesco's.

I met her when she was expecting DC2 "The result of cider and loose knicker elastic"
This time she hadn't escaped to tesco she'd brought ten tones of paper work instead. She didn't do resting.

Neither do I. I discharged myself the next day.

Hope you feel better real soon.

Oh, I would have loved a proper practical joke on nights when I did them, don't let it go for 2 long a minute and don't be suprised if you are labled a mental but I do and like this sort of thing.
most people who did this type of thing just did it to "get at the nurses" then after we had been dashing around for an hour would appear then complain to their family we hadn't noticed they had gone, then we would get 15 other complaints from other families about how the nurses had ignored their relative over night, because we had been phoning police, searching the hospital
Fun things for patients who are bored, top tip as the nurses for some plastic aprons and gloves, I used to in quiet moments fashion apron wedding dresses, and glove trains, I used to model after the night was out, for my patients, they loved it bit of light relief, but I never had enough time to make them great...
so some aprons and gloves then you have to use my tired old joke to the ladies, do you like my hat? fits like a glove....because it was made out of gloves....never mind :)
rest assured I don't nurse anymore tis a thankless task,

missingmumxox · 12/01/2013 02:02

ask the nurses

McNewPants2013 · 12/01/2013 02:06

i love difficult patients, so go ahead do it

missingmumxox · 12/01/2013 02:23

mcnew oddly so do I , they tend to get better quicker imho and tend to have a quirky humour, it was I will prove you wrong attitute which got them better I always felt, but the moaners, the moaners took forever.
23 years of nursing and since my second year I have been planning be the difficult lady, becase I LOVED their attitude and the mind games they would play.
I am still registered but I am in OH now and I see a different side to illness.

I see this thread's gone quiet & am wondering if you a) managed to get to sleep b) are busy making something exciting out of gloves & aprons or c) are running round the ward naked? X
