to find naked people in changing room unnecessary?

Such as at the gym and the swimming pool etc.

I'm not talking about women who are comfortable with themselves and can get changed in front of strangers no problem.

I'm referring to the ones who will take leisurely showers, walk around, spend ages getting ready, drying their hair and stand chatting to their friends completely naked.

I know we're all women etc but I just find it unnecessary.

Or maybe I am a prude Smile

Ach, I'm probably a prude. I don't really care much what other people do - although I'd prefer that if they're naked and leg-up, they don't point at me...

But I will stay covered below bra-line, thanks. I have some extensive scarring, and people really STARE.

kickassangel · 10/01/2013 23:39

Here's my issue with nakedness at the gym. I teach in a school where dd is also a student. Near the school is a gym where we go and many other families from the school also go. So if I take my dd swimming with one of her school friends then they are likely to see me naked, or at the very least bits of me. And one day I will be their teacher.

And yes, I have been half way through changing whena student I teach walks in. There are no cubicles

NeopreneMermaid · 10/01/2013 23:40

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. The only slightly awkward moment I've had was when my mum took me to her gym and blithly introduced me to a friend in the showers who was completely naked (we were in swimming cossies). I wasn't sure what the etiquette was. Shake hands? Kiss on the cheek? Full-on embrace?

cantspel · 10/01/2013 23:41

If the shower is opposite the bench then you are not really walking around the room.

But in many the showers are completely separate to the changing . At our local pool the showers are the other side of the toilets so why would anyone want to walk through the loos dripping wet and naked? But they still do

I get dressed as quickly as possible

not as bad as going to a turkish baths with my ex sil, ok you keep your knickers on but she started to wash me and thought nothing of washing my boobs all the women were washing each other. I came over very British and wrapped my towel around me

Spuddybean · 10/01/2013 23:42

oh and Cantspel i do also often walk across the hall to my bedroom to dry myself after i shower. i never dry in the bathroom.

IfNotNowThenWhen · 10/01/2013 23:42
Shock spuddybean, how come your families excessive nakedness has made you relaxed about it, and me quite prudey? Grin My sister used to call me The Nun when I was a kid because I would get changed under a towel on the beach!
Spuddybean · 10/01/2013 23:43

yes, i wouldn't do that cantspel, more because i would get cold i think.

mrdarceych · 10/01/2013 23:44

If notHaha!! That was my dad back in the day too!!
Anyway, having just been in Switzerland for past couple of years I was so shocked when I went swimming on a sunday afternoon and fancied a sauna... Well .... I was told its not allowed to wear swimming costume in the sauna!! God!. The british in me came flooding out!!

cantspel · 10/01/2013 23:44

that means you leave wet footprints across the carpet.
I paid a lot of money for my carpets i dont want ransom wet footprints on them.

HazeltheMcWitch · 10/01/2013 23:45

My friend has a sauna at her office in Switzerland, She's British. They have mixed sessions there, and nope, cossies are not the done thing.

My prudish little brain expoldes that that thought!

Spuddybean · 10/01/2013 23:47

well, i wipe my feet on the bath mat and my house is tiny so i don't make it that wet.

ifnot - i've no idea, i just don't care. i'm the same with germs/wee and i use anyone's toothbrush.

bedmonster · 10/01/2013 23:59

Oh my god, I am so prudish I dont even take off my wet cossie, just shove my clothes on over the top!
I never really thought of myself as a prude even though DP has told me I have been for years!
My norks are so flappy and saggy, actually, so is my belly, I don't want any of that on public display thankyou very much - it's clear that everyone is having a sneaky peek while they're getting dressed, I would lend a lot of material for a snigger-based thread on here!

BegoniaBampot · 11/01/2013 00:15

Doesn't bother me. hate to see folk getting all tangled trying to dress under a towel. Better just to whip it all off and get on with it. The more nudity the better. Did get told off by my mum and sister though for 'showing off' for just getting dressed quickly after swimming.

BunFagFreddie · 11/01/2013 00:29

Blow drying pubic hair and giving it a root lift? Seriously hermioneweasley? Most people's pubic efforts are expended on making my bush less bushy surely?

It's all part of life's rich tapestry. Grin

BunFagFreddie · 11/01/2013 00:30

I mean their bush. I don't have people faffing around my front garden.

BunFagFreddie · 11/01/2013 00:33

IfNotNowThenWhen My parents used to walk around the house naked and I went the other way too. I hated it and I still don't approve of wanton nakedness even now, unless it is with DP!

BegoniaBampot · 11/01/2013 01:18

Sigh,oh how I miss when we all had those big 70/80's bushes!

BegoniaBampot · 11/01/2013 01:19

Though I've still got one, refuse to move with the times and keeps me warm in winter.

MrsMushroom · 11/01/2013 01:59

who bleddy moisturizes after a swim at the pool? That's for at home.

LibraryMum8 · 11/01/2013 05:05

Yanbu! Somehow they are being stimulated by this!! That alone would make me uncomfortable!

Morloth · 11/01/2013 05:50

Meh not necessary, but not any sort of a problem either.

It is a changing room, it is perfectly appropriate to be naked there.

MrsHoarder · 11/01/2013 05:54

I moisturise after a swim, my legs go scaly if I don't. I do get my underwear on first though, and have no issue with putting clothes on as soon as I'vefinished.

Lavenderhoney · 11/01/2013 06:07

I can't squash into a changing cubicle with 2 dcs and all our stuff. So we get changed in a corner quickly. When we come out, we change quickly and leave.
I don't like all the striding about either:) i dont react though, cos of the dc.

When I used to frequent the gym i didn't like the naked ladies doing their hair and make up or slathering themselves with lotion and striding around waiting for it to dry. And I didnt understand the standing chatting whilst naked. Just get dressed and go!

I used to shower and get my pants on at least:) before venturing out into it all.

Same for communal changing rooms in shops, though thankfully not so many now exist:)
