If visitors popped round to my house right now....

they would be confronted with the sight of my 8 and 10 year old boys, starkers but for their y-fronts, sprawled out on the living room floor reading

first day back at school, and this is how they choose to relax before dinner (ds1 is now making a disgusting noise apparently known as a "leg fart")

but a comment from a RL acquaintance has made me wonder whether I should make them put clothes on Shock

I do make them change out of their uniforms when they come in, and I offered them the choice of normal clothes or PJs. they both said "can't we just wear our pants"

AIBU?

Why should they have to have clothes on in their home if they're comfortable in their pants? Unless its offending anyone else that lives there?

What did your acquaintance say to make you think that?

MrsHoarder · 08/01/2013 16:51

I'd wonder why your heating was so high. If in January its comfy to loll on the floor in just pants then it clearly needs to come down a notch.

Greensleeves · 08/01/2013 16:53

Heating isn't on and the living room and kitchen windows are open! But I'm not cold either. I think it's just mild today.

If a visitor came to my house they would see 11year old DS in his tiger onesie impersonating a dog, now that's weird and I do wonder if should address the ishoo but its his house, he's comfy and he's having fun.

What did acquaintance say?

Witchofthenorth · 08/01/2013 16:55

my kids quite often run around in just their pants.....it doesn't bother us and stuff anyone else.

What was said that made you question the appropriatness(sp?) of it all?

WhispersOfWickedness · 08/01/2013 17:02

Wouldn't bother me, but then I've been in potty training hell for the past six months so am used to little bare bottoms running round!

BunFagFreddie · 08/01/2013 17:03

DS gets changed into his pj shorts after school. Loads of boys and men like to sit around in their undercrackers. I'd like to do it, but it wouldn't be fair on a teenage boy.

MrsTomHardy · 08/01/2013 17:04

My 10 year old DS strips off once he's home from school into just pants....his choice Grin

ouryve · 08/01/2013 17:04

Any visitor to my house would have to step over al the shoes and socks and laces that DS2's scattered across the floor.

I can see the carpet when he's at school!

VisualiseAHorse · 08/01/2013 17:06

Don't see why not - can't say I blame them. Wearing any kind of uniform all day can be stifling, and what better way to relax than lie round in your underpants?

VodkaJelly · 08/01/2013 17:11

my 12 year old always strips off to his pants, he can spend all day in just his pants! I am not bothered as it is his home and he is comfortable although we have bought him a onesie now.

it is funny when someone knocks on the door to watch him sprint up the stairs before the door is opened

nannyof3 · 08/01/2013 17:15

My 3... 6,5,3.. Are sat on front room floor watching mickey mouse club house, 2 with blankets wrapped round them..

financialwizard · 08/01/2013 17:17

My 11 year old DS wouldn't but he is quite prudish ATM. My 2 year old dd would happily run around naked all day even if it is freezing cold!

No ones business but your own.

KenLeeeeeee · 08/01/2013 17:22

Mine are all in various states of undress too (apart from ds1 who has his Angry Birds onesie, slippers and dressing gown on), peacefully sitting upstairs playing jenga. The baby is asleep. I'm drinking tea and MNing. Bliss.

BiteTheTopsOffIcedGems · 08/01/2013 17:26

Clothes = not relaxing
Pyjamas = relaxing
Pants = so relaxing, nearly asleep.

KatieScarlett2833 · 08/01/2013 17:30

DS and DH are faithfully devoted to the boxer short/dressing gown ensemble, never occurred to me that this is odd.

ScarletWomanoftheVillage · 08/01/2013 17:31

I'd just be bloody delighted they're reading! Grin

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 08/01/2013 17:43

My DH does this as soon as he gets in from work, so I guess I should prepare myself from my 8wo DS to do it at some point....Grin YANBU to leave them be.

I too want to know what the acquaintance said!!

MrsKeithRichards · 08/01/2013 17:46

I love running about in my pants

MrsReiver · 08/01/2013 17:49

Any poppers would be faced by the sight of my DS just in his jammie bottoms and if they came round in 30 minutes they'd find DH in a similar state of undress.

Greensleeves · 08/01/2013 23:17

Apologies for the suspense! The acquaintance made a sniffy remark about someone else's Y4 walking himself to school (they live on her road and she always accompanies hers) and then commented that the younger siblings" don't even bother putting clothes on unless they are going out"

and mine are Y4 and Y5 and would happily spend their whole lives in their pants!

I find it quite sweet really, and am pleased they feel comfy in their home. Although I could do without the "leg farts" Hmm
