To think a grown woman shouldn't be this obsessed about One Direction? (Heavily FB related. You have been warned.)

My 25 year old Facebook friend (i've known since school) is a self proclaimed 'goth'. When 1D came out, she slagged off people who liked them. She regularly wrote on Facebook that One Direction were Posers and Pretty Boys.

Anyway, she then informed Facebook that she would give them a chance and listened to one of their songs. Suddenly she was a Directioner.

She has joined about a million fan clubs on FB, constantly updates her FB with pics of One Direction. She's joined role playing One Direction pages, she's started writing FanFiic about them. She has almost her whole room cluttered with One Direction stuff.

She posted something on FB the other day along the lines of 'we love you Harry Styles. Although lots of us have hated you for loving Taylor Swift, we realise we have to be happy about what makes you happy. But I think i'd be better for you'.

She regularly goes through bouts of obsessive behaviour. A few months ago it was Harry Potter and now 1D. i go on Fb to look each night, and can see she spends all her days on there commenting on 1D pages or posting her own stuff re 1D.

I posted something a few weeks ago like 'Standing in the queue in Asda and One Direction comes on. Thanks for the headache, boys'.

My friend then replied really agressively 'then get the fuck out the shop then. Directioners 4eva! Bet you're a Belieber.'

She doesn't have any special needs or anything.

This isn't healthy is it?

I have 30 year old friends of FB who are stil Boyzone, Backstreet Boys and Take That fans. Some people don't grow up for some reason.

sockmuppet · 07/01/2013 20:51

YABU for posting about standing in a queue in ASDA on facebook.

Pickles101 · 07/01/2013 20:52

I have a similar 'friend', but her muse is Take That.

Each to their own but it is a little bit, umm... baffling!? (not the liking boybands yes, the liking boybands, but the intensity of the obsession with them) definitely, SERIOUSLY not normal

kinkyfuckery · 07/01/2013 20:52

YABU to take such notice in the Facebook postings of someone you dislike, instead of just deleting her.

manicbmc · 07/01/2013 20:53

She's 25? Not 12? Confused

catgirl1976 · 07/01/2013 20:55

That doesn't sound healthy to me

Bobyan · 07/01/2013 20:55

What the fuck is a directioner?!?!

LST · 07/01/2013 20:56

Im unhealthily obsessed with Robert Pattinson.. Its not done me any harm Grin

threesocksmorgan · 07/01/2013 20:57

"She doesn't have any special needs or anything." odd thing to say
she has bad taste in music though

squeakytoy · 07/01/2013 20:58

are you sure her little sister hasnt taken over her fb account.. Grin

she sounds bonkers..

WhistlingNun · 07/01/2013 21:01

Sorry threesock, just thought i'd say that before people suggested it. My daughter has autism and she also displays obsessive behaviour. I just wanted to make it clear my friend doesn't have ASD.

I don't dislike her. I'm just a bit baffled that a grown woman can act like this over a group of young lads. From what i can see, she posted on a comment on one of the fan pages (popped up on my newsfeed) earlier where the admin had asked everyone's ages. Almost every poster was below 15 and then my friend writes 'ummmm i'm 25'.

I know people in their 60s who are obsessed with bands (if 1D qualify for the term). Is it the obsession or her musical choice that bothers you?

WhistlingNun · 07/01/2013 21:04

Nothing particularly bothers me. It baffles me is all. I don't care either way. Just wondered if it's normal/healthy. My first obsession was Darius (remember him?) But i don't think i was ever this devoted to him as my friend is to 1D.

Maybe if i remotely liked One Direction i'd understand better?

Eek OP... you're going to be censured about your reference to 'special needs'!

I don't know anything about One Direction but they must have something about them if they can turn a former Goth into a fan, no? Grin

WhistlingNun · 07/01/2013 21:11

Yeah, sorry Lying, i realise how crap that sounded in my OP. It's just in case anybody suggested her obsessiveness could be ASD related. So i thought i'd confirm in advance she doesn't have ASD.

No offence meant.

Just hide her incessant updates from your newsfeed? Job jobbed.

But no, YANBU. Weirdo (her, not you) Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 07/01/2013 21:13

I'm not offended at all, Whistling, was just preparing you, just in case! Grin

confusteling · 07/01/2013 21:22

It honestly sounds like special needs - going through obsessions like that is associated with ASDs.

Dsis is the exact same - but she's ASD .. She's a "Belieber" and woe betied anyone who isn't. Bieber perfume, bieber diary, bieber clothing, mugs, posters .. Prior to that it was Hannah Montana (jammas, posters, dolls, mugs, dvds, repeating random show phrases; if she could stalk the Cyrus clan she'd have done it..) ..
