AIBU to really really want to buy www.notonthehighstreet.com/shrutidesigns/product/velvet-patchwork-bed-throw this? I did get some money for Christmas to pay about half and I lust after it.

Warning - do not go anywhere else on the website - too many beautiful things you will want to buy Smile

If you really like it and you can afford it then I cannot see any reason why not!

Latonia · 07/01/2013 16:12

Well there are other things I should spend on first, like utility bills but I pay by direct debit so hope its covered.

Don't "hope" that bills are covered, find out if you can afford it or not before you buy it.

sleepyhead · 07/01/2013 16:17

It's lovely, but not very big.

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 07/01/2013 16:18

It's only 30% off, not a one off opportunity to buy it. There's no way I'd buy it in your financial situation or at all actually, but that's irrelevant

Whoknowswhocares · 07/01/2013 16:20

It's only 30% off! I'd wait, check you really have got the direct debits sorted and hopefully get it further reduced later

LadyBeagleEyes · 07/01/2013 16:20

It is gorgeous, but no picture of it on the bed to judge size.
I'd need to see that.

EuroShagmore · 07/01/2013 16:26

The size is listed though.

Trills · 07/01/2013 16:27

115 x 180 cms

A double duvet is 200 x 200 I think

Latonia · 07/01/2013 16:27

You MNers are wise. I agree it's difficult to see the size and really should make sure my bills are covered before splashing out.

Thank you Smile

Melpomene · 07/01/2013 16:29

Yes, it's only single-bed size, isn't it? Don't buy it unless you've got the money to spare.

LadyMaryChristmas · 07/01/2013 16:29

It's not too difficult to make one of those if you can use a sewing machine. Smile

Latonia · 07/01/2013 16:49

I can use a sewing machine but need to buy one - will have a look On the Arts and Crafts Board to see which one they recommend. It's just where to go for the fabric, LadyMaryChristmas.

OP posts:
nickelbabylyinginamanger · 07/01/2013 16:54

no, don't buy a sewing machine and loads of fabric instead!
LadyMary meant if you already had access to a machine - and you must use fabric you already have (like scraps, or stuff you've been collecting for years and never got round to using )

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 07/01/2013 16:54

46inches x 72inches.

so 4 foot (under) by 6 ft.

not big enough for a bed.

LadyMaryChristmas · 07/01/2013 17:15

nickel is right, don't buy one if you don't have one. It defeats the object of saving money. Is there someone who can lend one to you? Scraps of fabric are fine. There's a place in the market here which sell bundles of off-cuts (usually squares) for £1 or try ebay.

Twattybollocks · 07/01/2013 17:15

No, I wouldn't buy it for a bed throw, it's not big enough unless you are planning to use it horizontally across the bottom of a double bed as a runner. There just isn't enough overhang to use it on a single as a bed spread.

Latonia · 07/01/2013 17:32

No I don't have beautiful cotton velvet I've saved for years unfortunately. When I moved I threw out so much stuff I could find a use for now Sad

Ok, bed throw is a no no, sewing machine is a no no. If I went the self made route it could end up costing an arm and a leg. Back to the drawing board.

Thank you all.

keep an eye out in charity shops - they often have that kind of thing.

the other month, I was looking for fabric for a window display (for the shop) and I saw a lovely quilt/throw for £15.

Latonia · 07/01/2013 17:53

That's a great idea and maybe I will hand sew it.

IKEA have sewing machines for about £50! Meant to be really good from the reviews I've been reading. But sadly I don't need two but one day my DD will be old enough to use one unsupervised :-) If you're local I'd happily share and go half on an IKEA one ;-)
