To think if you have a virus which causes vomiting etc you shouldn't be at work

I work in a small office (15 members of staff in total). Someone has come into work today having been vomiting all day yesterday. She still feels sick now and has other symptoms too (aching, fever, cold like symptoms as well). She was told at 11.00am to go home by one of the directors and she is still here now.

AIBU to think that she shouldn't really have come in at all and secondly that she should have gone home, bearing in mind she has been told to go home?

yanbu. I hate sick people at work. I'd much rather do a bit extra work than risk getting ill.

Any one phoning ill at our office due to vomiting currently gets their desk disinfected by our office manager who goes round saying they'd rather have 1 member of staff off at a time than 10.

No sick pay is not a problem. They don't even mind you having days off to look after your children if they are poorly. One woman's dad has had a stroke and she comes in late and leaves early to go and see him in hospital. Again, this has not been an issue and she is being paid her full pay, even though this has been the situation for three or four months.

That being the case then surely you would exercise a bit of common sense and not give everyone else your sickness bug. It's not as if you get a hard time for being off and in this instance she was told to go home and yet stayed in the office for a further five hours.

YANBU. She is! I hope it wasn't norovirus, as I was reading up on that and apparently, this is a virus which can be caught from a toilet seat.

When she left at 4pm, was she sporting a massive medal on her collar?!

So what exactly was her reason for staying so long???? I just don't understand!!

Being a martyr? "oh the office needs me...."

Given that your employers seem to be more than supportive and reasonable someone needs to give her a stepladder when she next comes in to help her down off her fucking crucifix.
