Am I being a bit unreasonable to think that surely a new cooker should have a mains lead? Or should they at least tell you it doesnt come with one ! GRRRRR

Eh? You bought a cooker that doesn't have a lead?

Oh Dp's helpful suggestion is to look behind the backplate as they stash them there for delivery.

Chopstheduck · 07/01/2013 13:58

Our last one I think it was behind the backplate. we had to unscrew it.

DozyDuck · 07/01/2013 13:58

Hope it's behind the backplate! It often is Smile

Currys are shit. We bought a tele on 1/12/12 and it went wrong on 1st Jan. we took it back Friday and they wanted to send it away for repair!Shock. We did get our money back in the end, but it took a bloody row with the manager! I will never buy anything from there again!

ByTheWay1 · 07/01/2013 14:07

Our cooker doesn't "plug in" as such - it is wired into it's own circuit - to a switch with a light on the wall...

madeupstuff · 07/01/2013 14:11

What ByTheWay1 said - a cooker can draw much more than the 13A that a normal UK plug is rated for. It will need wiring in. Does the new cooker replace an old one with a circuit/switch that's still there?

Chopstheduck · 07/01/2013 14:16

I assumed the op mean the mains lead to wire it into the mains, not for a wall plug! I'm sure mien had something inside it that I then connected to the mains supply link in the oven hosuing.

fryingpantoface · 07/01/2013 14:33

I work for a kitchen appliance company. Not currys.

Most manufacturers don't include a cable. Your certified fitter will have one. Its to make sure they are fitted correctly so the warranty isn't invalid.

cuteboots · 07/01/2013 14:36

Just rang them and apparently this is why they wanted £65 from me to wire it in properly. I didnt go for this option and assumed it would have the required cable. Silly me

OP posts:
Chopstheduck · 07/01/2013 14:38

have you not got the cable from the old cooker hanging out at the back of the housing? You just wire that in to the new cooker, it a 3 minute job.

Chopstheduck · 07/01/2013 14:38

TURN THE ELECTRIC OFF FIRST!

cuteboots · 07/01/2013 15:01

chopstheduck-Unfortunately tbey took the old cooker and we disconnected the mains cable at the wall ! Boo Hiss

Call a local electrician if you can't wire it in yourself, when I had a cooker delivered I declined to pay Currys £lots and the local guy came an hour after it was delivered and did the job for £20.
