How can these children's mother think this is an acceptable way to behave

I was driving out of a supermarket car park today and ahead of me a woman was reversing out of her space. She was quite a long way ahead of me so I continued driving mega slowly so she had time to get out and then stopped leaving stacks of room for her to finish reversing as she hadn't vacated the space by the time I got closer. She had a girl in the front of the car and a boy in the back, both of whom were shouting goodness knows what at me and making the Loser sign when I had done absolutely nothing wrong. As I followed them out of the car park the boy kept turning round to do the Loser thing. How can that woman allow/ encourage this kind of behaviour?

Bearbehind it probably wasn't anything to do with your driving and everything to do with the fact that those kids wanted some sort of reaction out of you Smile don't stress about it.

ILikeWhisperingToo · 03/01/2013 21:05

Point of interest: no laws in a car park, it is totally separate to the public highway.

I thought you were going to say they were putting their finger up at you. I would have been pulling faces at them laughed very obviously at them. A smile when someone is being rude takes the wind out of their sails :)

I think you are looking to find a reason for this and questioning yourself unnecessarily. This was nothing to do with your driving or how much space you left, and everything to do with the fact that those children are rude little brats.

MamyPoko · 03/01/2013 21:08

OP, what car do you drive?

itsmineitsmine · 03/01/2013 21:08

Good point ilove.

Highway code is surely a usefulguide in these situations though, no? Otherwise its anarchy.

Mind you, i have no sympathy for people who park forwards and have to reverse out, generslly.

MichelleRooJnr · 03/01/2013 21:12

But itsmineitsmine if you reverse in how do you get the trolley near your boot for unloading shopping?

Bearbehind · 03/01/2013 21:12

Mamypoko, I'm intrigued to know why it matters what car I drive?

OP posts:
itsmineitsmine · 03/01/2013 21:16

I dont get the trolley near the boot. I leave the trolley at thr front and carry thr bags round. I would rather do that than fart around trying to reverse out of a spot in a busy carpark. Unless you have some disability or illness that affects your ability to carry bags 2 feet i dont see why its an isssue. Personally. But then i think most people these days are lazy and will avoid exerting themsevlves wherever possible.

MamyPoko · 03/01/2013 21:20

I'm just interested that you've interpreted their verbal abuse as being a comment on your driving. They're children; I assume they don't drive, aren't familiar with the Highway Code or the etiquette of supermarket car parks. Is it not more likely they had an in-joke about something more obvious, like your car?

I'm a terrible parker, so would likely interpret it the same way if I were feeling sensitive. On another day, I wouldn't have given it a second thought, though.

MichelleRooJnr · 03/01/2013 21:25

I prefer not to leave a vessel with wheels but no brakes unattended so close to lots of cars.

Trolleys have a tendency to drift.

I don't want to squeeze between my car and someone elses with large bags of groceries (I use big reusable shopping bags).
I don't want to leave some of my shopping unattended in my open boot while I go back to the trolley for more.
I certainly think driving into a parking spot and leaving one's boot facing out is less to do with laziness Hmm and more to do with consideration for others' property.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 03/01/2013 21:25

I use huge bags for life, there's no way I'm going to risk scratching my own or the twat that has most likely parked too close to me the car's parked next to me paintwork, itsmineitsmine. I also think it's no hassle reversing out of a car park space!

OP I wouldn't dwell on it, the kids were being rude. Be thankful you don't have to put up with them every day.

itsmineitsmine · 03/01/2013 21:48

All the trolleys here have brakes.

Poor driving and laziness, and 'me, me, me, my convenience is paramount!' Is the truth, for the most part.

oldpeculiar · 03/01/2013 22:14

You knew you were going to stop, she didn't.

Bearbehind · 04/01/2013 07:29

Oldpeculiar, I was barely moving and stopped well before her and even if she didn't know I was going to stop that doesn't excuse the children's behaviour which is the reason for my post, road rage in adults is one thing but from children it is quite another.

Wow! Itsmine. I park forwards in spaces as I either need to get DT2 and/or the double pushchair out of the boot. As well as 3 other children from the car.

Of course I could reverse in so as not to be selfish and, while getting double pushchair in/out, risk damaging the vehicle parked behind because that's not inconsiderate at all

OP the kids were just doing what kids do. I wouldn't worry. Dsis and I used to wave enthusiastically at random cars on long journeys to see if we could either confuse them or get a wave back. Another one was to eat the big pink pear drops and poke them out like a tongue to see what reaction we got. Times have simply moved on as to the reactions kids want.
