Would you take your child to the doctors for this?

Ds is 6, (7 next month) and has a extremely fast metabolism (he gets treated on a diabeties type diet)

He is 3st 2oz and wears 5-6 year old clothes.

We call him tin ribs as you can see every rib in his body, including his back bones.

When he eats, he needs to use the loo on average 5 to 30 mins after every meal and sometimes even snacks.

He is pale and over the past few weeks has started getting dark circles under his eyes.

He's fit and healthy otherwise, plays football twice a week, does karate, and runs around like a normal 6 year old.

I'm just worried about his weight and metabolism, he eats well and has a good varied diet.

Is this normal or would you get your child checkout if it was them. Just seems he's not growing (been in the same shoe size for 20 months now and showing no signs of sprouting. (Shoes size size 10.5)

Another mum of a coeliac child here, but my DD was asymptomatic so never had the diarohea etc you mention, just a "failure to thrive". If your DS is gluten intolerant his symptoms are classic, particularly as you describe his diet which is high in gluten.
My DD had a gluten challenge when she was about 14, she was allowed to eat anything for 6 months, her symptoms were tiredness more than anything.

Totally agree with the posters son who didnt know he had a tummy ache til it had gone! I felt amazing after cutting out gluten, like I hadn't known how you're supposed to feel, if that makes sense? It just felt like I was permanently sick/tired/feeing like crap

Agree with those who say get him tested for gluten-intolerance/other issues. Pre-disposition is shown by a simple blood test which has only been available for the last few years.
Insist on a referral to pediatric consultant - do not let your GP fob you off. Something doesn't sound right.

Glad that you have a doctors appt. My DS has had toilet issues since he was a tot and it turns out he has lactose intolerance. Took me years to get this diagnosis. He too is very thin and used to go to the toilet straight after food. I could actually look at him and know when he needed to go. He still has some issues but nothing to what it was like.

Mention all of your concerns to the doctor. I had about 5 visits until I got the correct diagnosis.

Good luck but trust your instincts. I did and I was right.
