I used a mobile phone recycling company recently who offered me £77 for a phone worth £150 new, the phone was less than a year old and almost in perfect condition. 5 days later i received an email stating that they revised the offer to £30.14 because of 'cosmetic damage' and i had 5 days to respond or they would assume i'd accepted and continue the transaction, when i rang up 'customer service' they were rude, obviously disinterested and told me to accept or i'd have to pay £9 to have my phone returned to me!!!
I understand I wasn't going to get nearly what i paid but a drop in £40 for a scratch on the back case!?!

They do the phones up and sell a refurbished though, the prices offered as based on the phone looking as new as possible. If not they have to spend money to do it up.

Was it not in the t&c's what would happen it if were scratched or you refused the offer once valued? I used envirophone and they stated how it worked on their website. Did you check?

Nothing in the t&c about having to pay to have the phone returned and a friend just recycled the same phone for £60 with mazuma, I'm thinking i got ripped off tbh :/

Yes they're well known for ripping people off in the exact way you described. Lesson learnt, its not worth the hassle usually!

If it's not in the T&C I'd ask to go higher. They can't ask you to send them expensive pieces of equipment and then go changing the T&C. Almost like coercion, hoping you'll accept the lower price instead of paying out for the phone's return.

Both me and DH did this at the same time.

However I used a company I'd never ward of but had good reviews online and he used O2 direct.

Mine offered more and sent my phone in and got full money with no quibbles.
He got offered less and when he sent it in, was offered even less, which he just took.
Don't trust them

Cortana That's exactly what they're doing, I've sent an email pointing out that it doesn't mention the payment to have the phone returned within the terms and conditions and I should have been made aware of this before I sent my phone off to these slimeballs, I think i'll just give it away next time, at the rate this company is going it would probably be cheaper

They should return the phone for free. I sent my 3GS to one of these places, the online offer for it being £70. It was about a year old and had been in a case the entire time, was in good condition but not perfect. They offered me £11!!! ELEVEN POUNDS! I just replied to their email to say the offer was rejected and they sent the phone straight back to me. (I then sold it on eBay for £78)

rstuk · 02/01/2013 19:50

They replied to my email by upping their revised offer by 4p!
I just don't want to pay for my phone to be returned because they changed the price of it.
