2 families are going to teh cinema.

It's Orange Wednesdays.

One family is 1 parent and 3 DC.

The other is 1 parent and 4 DC.

One family is providing 3 OW codes, the other 1 code.

What is the fairedt way to spilt the bill?

Use the codes to best advantage, MaryZ's option 1.

HollaAtMeSanta · 02/01/2013 09:57

My way would cost:
Small family: 3.70 (1 A) + 7.27 (1.5 DCs) = £10.97
Large family: 3.70 (1 A) + 9.70 (2 DCs) = £13.40

Agree with ballonslayer - the family providing 3 codes can't use them all so passes one over.

Basically the larger family uses two of their codes, so pays for two of their kids and get their other two kids in for free. Larger family therefore pays for two kids' tickets only.

The other family buys an adult ticket and uses first family's remaining code to get adult from first family in. The smaller family then buys two kids tickets and uses their code to get their third kid in. So they pay for one adult and two kids tickets.

Maybe the first family could in fact buy one adult and one child ticket, while the second family buys three child tickets. That's probably the fairest as both families pay less than they would if they went separately.

SantasENormaSnob · 02/01/2013 10:01

Maryz option 1 is the most cost effective for both families. Especially taking into account one family has 3 codes vs the other with only 1 code.

OpenToPersuasion · 02/01/2013 10:03

Ooh, just found out the texts cost 35p each not 10p as I thought.

I would just plump for each family paying their way, seems fairest and most sensible. Also, if drinks and snacks are going to be bought, the children may want different things so it seems the logical solution for each parent to sort their own kids out

Why does it matter?

LeeCoakley · 02/01/2013 10:18

One person pay for the whole lot using all the codes then split the bill - family 1 = 5/11ths and family 2 = 6/11ths. That's the way we always do it, where children count as 1/nth and adults count as 2/nths.

ohforfoxsake · 02/01/2013 10:19

Are you sure you can use the codes on children's tickets?

OpenToPersuasion · 02/01/2013 10:20

Gosh, no there's no animosity.

Will just pay whatever's needed. Relationship is a good long standing one - bit shruggy about who pays more each time - all evens out over long term.

Just knew how MN liked a Bill splittinf thread and realised how hard it would be to spilt equally etc.

Academic.

Yup, can use on children's ticket s.

Interesting how many different opinions there are.

What are you going to see?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 02/01/2013 10:27

Pool all the codes, buy however many tickets you need, split the cost evenly.

I'd say split it 50-50. Actually bothering to work it out fairly also gives me the same figures as I would say each adult pays for half an adult ticket (buy one, OW one), and each family pays for 2 children (buy 4, OW 3). That works out cheapest all round.

OpenToPersuasion · 02/01/2013 20:49

It solved itself! My biggest decided to stay ar home and do homework. So 2families of 4 - 4 vouchers.

Bob's my mom's bro.
