To think this ebay seller was a bit of a loon and should have just let it go

Bought some baby clothes on ebay for 15.03 a few days ago and collected yesterday. Put money in my back pocket and drove over there.

Got to door, opened by a man standing with his hand out. I reach into my back pocket and pull out the 20, pass it to him and start digging a little deeper for the 3p expecting him so say just leave it like any normal person and he's still looking at me with his hand out with a 'wheres the rest' look on his face. So I take the hint, retreat back to the car to look for the missing three pence and sure enough it's wedged down the side of the seat.
I go back and hand him the three pence and he looks at me and says
"that's better" like a teacher scolding a naughty pupil. It all felt a bit league of gentleman-like and strange.

Is it just me or would you have let the 3p go?

"I had it because I was going to give him the full amount. I would never turn up at someones house with any less that I won a bid for."

I know, that's what I was confused by. You thought the same as him, that you ought to give him the full price. There is no problem.

His manner sounds very rude, I wouldn't like that and would probably mention it in feedback to warn others they were dealing with someone of questionable people skills.

pigletmania · 31/12/2012 12:03

He was very rude, yes I would mention I in feedback

fergoose · 31/12/2012 12:07

I agree - I don't think most folk wouldn't worry about the 3p either - seller was being very pedantic.

He had passed me the fiver but still held his hand out so I was a bit Confused then I realised and was like Hmm and went back to my car to look for the 3p

So, the seller made you pay the full amount that you agreed to pay...? Confused What a bastard!

Flossiechops · 31/12/2012 12:17

Yanbu 3p isn't going to break the bank it's just 3p!

pigletmania · 31/12/2012 12:22

It's 3 bloody p soup any normal person would let it go. Yes his manner was incredibly rude

polkadotsrock · 31/12/2012 12:26

Oh, well that makes more sense. I would most likely have waved it off but he's entitled to it and may well have been stung in the past and so is super cautious/stingy

RandallPinkFloyd · 31/12/2012 12:31

Seriously. It's 3p. Three British pence.

If I sell on eBay it's because I'm Skinty McPoorpants but for crying out loud. 3p!

And anyway, you gave him enough money. If he was that bothered he should have given you 4.97 change, you're under no obligation to make giving change easier.

He'd have got that attitude right back if it was me.
