To avoid these families?

We are on holiday for New Year with 2 other families. They are sharing a house and we are around the corner.

We had supper with them last night. This morning they rang to say 2 of them had been sick in night with suspected norovirus.

Is there any point in avoiding them all or are we likely to be infected already?

On NHS website it says people are infectious when they start feeling ill.

Does this mean we could go on a walk this afternoon with the ones who aren't ill?

Or aibu for trying to avoid catching it given that we've spent an evening with them already?

Obviously I'd rather my family didn't catch it!

(We all live in the same town so this isn't a great big reunion or anything, but at the same time the kids were looking forward to be together.)

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Have a look at the Norovirus discussion of the day as there was a link on there that said that it's only catching after they have been sick as it's the germ particles in the air that are catching or something like that. Don't go in their house as you may touch handles they have touched etc.

Re the ones who aren't ill, well they share a house with the ones who are so may have caught something so perhaps if you do go for a walk don't let the children hold hands.

I wouldn't risk it. You could always claim you are all feeling too ropey to socialise.

Not very sociable but I would probably avoid them all. The ones that aren't ill yet are probably heading for it. It's possible you've already caught it but no point exposing yourselves more. But then, I got these bugs very badly and would do anything to avoid catching them.

Thanks for thread suggestion... I've posted on there too.

So if you haven't been sick you're not contagious? Could the germs be lurking on your skin/clothes?

Avoid!! I've been in bed since Christmas Day thanks to norovirus and 'sharing' relatives! It's honestly horrendous and not worth taking the chance. People are also contagious for up to 73 hours after they last experience symptoms.

If they are being sick they are infectious.

My DH hasn't been sick but just unable to drink or eat anything for past few days - up all night etc

I'd avoid.
