For the last week we've had problems with our power supply due to a fault in an underground cable. They have'nt been able to locate the fault until today.

My power went off last night about 12.30 and did'nt come back on until half 5 this evening, so 17 hours without any electric I want to throw everything out but my dp wants to keep the sel
ection of cheeses that We have i don't think, its safe to eat them.

What a waste, the feezer stuff would have been absolutely fine,

Poor you....this happened to us once but in the height of summer and our freezer is in the conservatory.....We had to get rid of loads of defrosted food but did manage to recoup most of the loss from our insurance (in fact the only time we've ever made a claim!) - it was still very inconvenient though - think we'd just missed rubbish collection day too so we had festering food in the bins for nearly a week ;-(....

Personally I'd eat the salami. It's been thoroughly preserved by drying, spicing and salting - salami is another pre-refridgeration technique for preserving food.

We used to keep cheese in the pantry when I was a child, my mother still does.
So I'd eat the cheeses and thaw and cook what ever else I could from the freezer.
Likewise eggs and jam, it's only recently that they have been stored in fridges.

Thankfully I did'nt have too much in my freezer, chicken nuggets, fish fingers and ice cream. Did'nt want to risk those. I'm going to keep the cheeses and salami.

Thanks for all the advice.
