To think '1 pack = 1 vaccine' is exceptionally stingy charity from Pampers

The cost of a vaccinating a whole village would only be a few pence, a pack of Pampers I'd estimate at about £5 and they're promising ONE vaccination. Is it just me or is this a cynical attempt to endear themselves to the 'ethical' customer while making very little impact on a third world problem. This kind of marketing really doesn't sit right with me.

My favourite on in this vein was the food bank collection at tescos - so after I've bought the product and made tesco a profit they want me to donate it

I'm not usually a big fan of these kind of cause related marketing things, but the Pampers/UNICEF tie up is better than most.

It has been very long term, and they are committed to keeping it up until the disease is eliminated. They started out with an agreement that all the pampers money would be used to pay for vaccines, and that other costs of advocacy, logistics, training, promotion to pregnant mothers etc... would be paid for by other donors. But when it became clear that delivery was the bottle-neck, not just the cost of the vaccine, they changed the agreement to enable funds to be spent more broadly.

I don't think you should be cynical "because they are profit motivated, and are not making the donation from the goodness of their hearts". Of course they are. If you have a pension it probably hold P&G shares. Your pension fund manager wouldn't be too happy if the company started giving its profits away.

I think where consumers can be miffed is if they feel like the 5p per pack donation by Pampers is too little for the amount if good feeling it buys. One pack = one vaccine sound great, but in practice if they are paying for nurses, delivery etc... (Which is good) it may work out at something more like 4 packs = 1 vaccine.

I think YABVU - it's a profit-making business after all, and doesn't have to do it.

I wonder how much it motivates people to buy pampers rather than another brand anyway.

People's biggest consideration on nappies seems to be which ones work best at the cheapest price ime.
