To expect mil to sleep on a z-bed........

So we have been thinking of changing our spare room into a play room for dc as her room is a box room and my living room is taken over by large plastic crap toys....but it is the only place we have a spare bed so if we get rid of it then we are taking away the option of mil (our only night time baby sitter) to stop over if she wishes. Usually she likes to drive back home when we get back but I like to give her the option of staying over.....

So I was thinking of getting a z bed so she still has the option of sleeping over and then we don't loose our baby sitter...lol...but then it also frees up space in our small house.

BUT.... AIBU to expect mil to stay on what is basically a glorified camp bed...

Thanks ;-)

The only thing is I suspect you'll still be tripping on toys.

DS has a large room with more than enough space for his stuff and his toys always migrate towards the living room.

I've just been sleeping with DH on a double futon whilst MIL has been here - not fantastically comfortable, but doable for the odd night, I would have thought.

We have an aerobed - it has an inbuilt electric pump and is kingsize and full height - most comfy and fits in a cupboard.

single futon should be ok
but I'd seriously edit the toys and shove a load in the loft
do you never have any other overnight guests?
could you get a sofabed for downstairs?

Got replies faster than I could reply...lol

May consider a single futon then if they are more comfy....or a good option would be to get a single z bed and put it as the side of dd's cot bed then mil can have my bed ...with dh on sofa downstairs...ha!

Seriously the amount of large toys and cuddlies that are taking over my house at the moment.....I am just trying to exhaust all options of having a house that is reasonably tidy...

Dc seems to have lots of large toys ....eg jump and spin zebra, activity able, a desk and chair set, 3....yes 3 oversized Disney cuddly toys as well at least 30 other smaller stuffed toys..happy land sets ect..... I am just like 'Ahhh where to put it all' ...

We have a bookcase and a drawer set in the spare room ATM along with a day bed....the room will fit nothing else in there with these 3 items of furniture so that is why I am thinking maybe I should get rid of the day beds as I need the bookcase and drawers for storage.. Thanks for all the suggestions...I will think about the other options suggested as I don't want to out myself of a babysitter even though its not often we need to go out, it's nice to have the option and mil is good that she comes to us while we like dc staying at home.

Next year I am going to have a cuddly toy ban at Xmas ;-))

We had something like this

I would say that a lot of futons tend to be quite low which is something to be considered.

Dinkyblu · 28/12/2012 21:24

namingofparts that's exactly the sort of thing I had in mind....something comfortable enough to expect mil to sleep on but small enough to fit in my downstairs cupboard ...thanks for link

Dinky I feel awful now, I have had a look on the website, and the bloody Swedish furniture store no longer sells the one we had, sorry!

Dinkyblu · 28/12/2012 21:33

captchaos ah no worries, thanks very much for taking the time to look for me :-))

Dinkyblu - I have checked with DH - FiL, who did have back problems at the time, was perfectly happy on it for a week. Do go for a slatted one.
