to think Jurassic Park really shouldn't be a PG?

It's a brilliant film, especially for its time.

But seriously a PG rating??

The scene where the raptors are the kitchen still creeps me out

And you even see a severed arm in one part.

My 3 year old liked it but we cover his eyes at the gory bit and explaine its not real. He now tells people TRex eat men lol

"Mummy is a girl so she will be ok" Xmas Grin

Parental guidance doesn't mean suitable for all. Also, it was made before the 12 rating was introduced.

From the PBBFC

'What does ?PG? mean?

This means a film is suitable for general viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for younger children. A ?PG? film should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. Parents should consider whether the content might upset younger or more sensitive children.'

I loved it as a kid and it didn't scare me at all. I watched it recently with my daughter (5 at the time) and she loved it, yet it scared the crap out of me a bit!

DontCallMeBaby · 27/12/2012 11:29

Useful quote, Narked - I think a lot of people think U really is fine for all (BBFC actually say 4 and up!) and PG guaranteed okay for littlies. When you realise it's officially 8 and up the jump to 12/12A doesn't seem that big after all.

I use IMDB parental guidance if I'm not sure - usually pretty accurate, and occasionally highly amusing when someone VERY prudish has got their hands on it.

My dd aged 3 loves it (in fact all 3 films) and is now obsessed with dinosaurs as a result.

Anniegetyourgun · 27/12/2012 13:16

We took the DCs when it first came out. DS3 was about 4 or 5 and a tough little soul. I was more scared through most of it than he was. But even he held my hand rather tightly through the raptors in the kitchen bit.

Dereksmalls · 27/12/2012 13:31

DD1 would have laughed all the way through when she was 2, now aged 6 she would crap herself! Concept of fear took a few years to kick in!

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/12/2012 13:33

Why not? The clue is in the certification Parental Guidance as in it will be suitable for some children and not for others...it's up to parents to decide.

YABU. I'd see your point if it was a U.

I remember seeing Jurassic Park at the cinema (aged about 11-ish) and being utterly terrified. I left the cinema half-way through to go and sit in the lobby with my aunt, who had taken me, my brother and cousins.

I'm the first to admit that I'm a complete scaredy cat at the best of times, but that film was awful for me at that time. I have watched it since, and am pleased to report I can get through it now Grin Wink
