and not outside in the lashing wind and rain on their (presumably new) bikes?

Well it's not something I would allow but as long as the bikes are well lit and they aren't being a nucience I guess it's each to their own

BonkeyMollocks · 26/12/2012 22:09

Mines in bed - shouting happily at the top of his voice Hmm

pictish · 26/12/2012 22:09

Parents have probably been having a festive tipple or three. My parents fondly recall they new year everyone was pished and all the kids were out in the field in the village at 1am making igloos in the snow.

If it's a one off wind your neck in and mind yer ain. If there's more to it, tell us.

SantasHoHoHo · 26/12/2012 22:09

YANBU if only to give parents the chance to rest from the madness that is Christmas!

10pm is late though in Winter.

WorraLorraTurkey · 26/12/2012 22:11

It depends really.

Is there a family gathering/party going on?

If so, it's not unusual for kids to want to play outside.

If the noise is disturbing you, go out and have a polite word.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 26/12/2012 22:13

One has just a t-shirt on his top half - it's 6 degrees and pissing down!

Not a light on any of the bikes but they are just on the village green so should be safe. Just feels so odd for them to be out so late in the dark and wintery weather.

WorraLorraTurkey · 26/12/2012 22:14

Stop worrying about the weather Lol

I'm sure if it bothered them they'd go in and get their coats on.

Is the noise bothering you?

BonkeyMollocks · 26/12/2012 22:20

Holly Get a drink (a strong one) , get a bike, get out there and join them!

ITS CHRISTMAS....

BigShinyBaubles · 26/12/2012 22:20

Mine are still up..but no way would they be outside.

SaskiaRembrandtVampireHunter · 26/12/2012 22:23

I think at Christmas the normal rules are ignored. If they're doing this on a school night in March you'll be perfectly entitled to hoist your judgey pants. But between Christmas Eve and New Year Day the social niceties don't apply, and kids can go out and ride new bikes way past bed time. I believe it's enshrined in Common Law

MsElleTow · 26/12/2012 22:27

Mines been out running tonight, with his new iPod strapped to his arm! He only had a t-shirt and shorts on too! He goes every night, didn't go last night though, was too stuffed after dinner!

Don't worry about them, you're not the one who has to dry their clothes etc. Maybe their parents want to try to tire them out tonight!

FunnysFuckingFreezing · 26/12/2012 22:29

YANBU, my two were shoehorned into their beds by 9pm. They are 2 and 7. The 2yo had a massive gulping tantrum as per

trixymalixy · 26/12/2012 22:32

Mine have been in bed since 8, no sign of them sleeping though.

FestiveElement · 26/12/2012 22:33

Yabu to think they should be in bed. YANBU to think they shouldn't be out riding bikes.

manicinsomniac · 27/12/2012 00:16

YABU and a bit miserable. It's Christmas !

We've only just got back from relatives and gone to bed now. My kids were in my aunt and uncle's hot tub in the cold, dark and rain at 10pm - they were having great fun.

They can sleep in tomorrow, it's no big deal

SPsFanjoIsSantasLittleHoHoHo · 27/12/2012 00:19

Yabu!

We were allowed to do this and if it snowed early hours or late night we were woke and told we could go play in it.

Startail · 27/12/2012 03:07

I once cycled 24 miles the day my grandparents left from a visit.

Frightened my poor parents witless (I must have been about 12) and they just thought I'd gone to the village.

I just wanted some space after being coped up decided to go to school and back just to see if I could.

(I should add I did go to my "nearest" secondary).

I guess the DDs are just escaping relatives.

greenbananas · 27/12/2012 08:01

I want to live near a village green so that my children can have festive night bike rides in the wintry rain Grin It sounds like great fun, and those children will probably remember it forever.

yggdrasil · 27/12/2012 08:14

yeah but when you say kids, how old?

Cos I'm guessing these kids on bikes are not 2, unless they are very advanced with their two wheel ability.

Bit of a difference a ten year old out there late at night vs a two year old. A two year old probably ought to be in bed. (but in my house probably wouldn't be)
